The Reckless Moment(1949) A watchable film noir/thriller directed by Max Ophuls where a blackmailer's attitude softens when he gets to know his victim(Joan Bennett). James Mason, as usual is terrific as the blackmailer and Bennett is very good too. If the story doesn't quite hang together, its still a decent watch with some nice noir cinematography. Remade, quite well as The Deep End in 2001 with Tilda Swinton. 7/10

The Mill On The Floss(1936)

Powerful drama.A bitter feud breaks out between two once close families over the rights to the water from the River Floss which powers the mill.A beautifully shot film, wonderfully acted by James Mason,Geraldine Fitzgerald and Felix Aylmer.

The Car(1971)

Elliott Silverstein directs this decent b-movie that had a poster tagline that read "Is it a phantom,a demon of the Devil himself?".Actually it's a big, black car that forces people off the road.Ronnie Cox puts in a good performance as a member of the local law enforcement.Filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro was such a fan of this film,he had a replica of the car built to the exact specifications as the one in the film to use as his everyday runaround.

Pandorum (2009) Sometime in the future, two men(Dennis Quaid & Ben Foster) awake from stasis on a spaceship with fragments of memory and try to piece together what happened. A mix of Alien style action and scifi mystery it is an intriguing, sometimes confusing but generally watchable ride. Also starring Cam Gigandet,Cung Le, Antje Traue & Eddie Rouse. 6/10

Love & Friendship(2016)

The fantastic Whilt Stillman directs a stellar cast in this adaptation of the slightly lesser known Jane Austen short novel,Lady Susan.Austen was around 19 years old when she wrote it,but it was not published until some 50 years after her death.Austen also wrote the book in the form of letters. The character of Lady Susan, played superbly by Kate Beckinsale is a lady of charm, beauty and great intelligence. She also has no morals whatsoever.Fleshed out with great skill by director Whilt Stillman, who also wrote the screenplay.Great work also from Chloe Sevigny,Xavier Samuel,Tom Bennett,Emma Green well and Stephen Fry.However, its Beckinsale who steals the show, with a brilliant performance and a reminder of how great an actress she was before she made all those terrible vampire vs werewolf films.
