Spectre.

An ultimate trip down 007 memory lane in some ways.
Without giving the plot away there is a lot going on in this film. It seems early on as though there are different agendas in play home and abroad for both Bond and the intelligence network as a whole but by the end they interconnect seamlessly.
And although we don't see much of Christoph Waltz until the closing quarter as the villain the quality of his performance is truly outstanding imo.
The very essence of pure, calm evil with a ruthless smile.
In many ways I think Waltz is the star of this film in a way I was not expecting.
A must watch.

8.5/10.

A History Of Violence (2005)

It's still difficult for me to see Viggo Mortensen in a role which doesn't involve an adventure in Middle Earth, and you can't get much more different than the one he plays here. He's a small town diner owner who finds the violence from past events consuming him when some rather shady characters re-enter his life. It's a compelling film noir with all of David Cronenberg's characteristics - crazy violence and sex - and is a really good watch for two hours. Also starring Ed Harris and Maria Bello. 4/5

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Very good end to The Hunger Games franchise (at least for now). It starts straight after the shocking end of Mockingjay Part 1 and sees a traumatised Katniss Everdeen planning to assassinate President Snow.

Jennifer Lawrence is again outstanding as Katniss Everdeen/The Mockingjay and there are lots of good action sequences, twists and shocks before the end. The special effects are very good as is the plot and it is a fitting end to the hunger games franchise

9/10

Howl's moving castle
perhaps the best work of Hayao Miyazaki; 9/10

year after year after year, I keep reading that the shows were better "in the past"... maybe they were never that great (except in the pioneering era)?
