RE: Last film you watched
All 6 "classic"(ie. original cast not Next Generation) Star Trek films that were on Sci Fi Saturday/Sunday.

The Motion Picture : could easily have lost an hour's running time and still been too long imo. Although a reasonable story at the heart of it, it is glacially paced : I think they were going for Kubric grandeur but honestly 10 minutes of Shatner gazing at the Enterprise while slowly flying around it Rolleyes and then ENDLESS dialogue free shots of the Vger cloud with not much happening : cut to viewscreen - cut to Kirk looking awed - cut to viewscreen - cut to Spock raising his eyebrow - cut to viewscreen - cut to Sulu looking amazed - cut to viewscreen - and so on through the whole bridge crew. Rolleyes Then start again with a slightly different tunnel effect on the viewscreen and repeat the reaction shots all over again. bladewave

The Wrath of Khan : easily the best imo.
A scenery chewing villain "revenge is a dish best served cold.It is very cold...in space" Big Laugh that you don't actually need to have remembered from the TV series (I didn't when I first saw it as a child and there was no sense you were missing vital back story.)
And the climatic battle is basically a submarine movie in space. Cool
Slight naffness with Kirk's son subplot but hey.
Kirsty Alley as the female trainee Vulcan officer.
Completely weird science bit where you hear them beginning a conversation as they're in the middle of "beaming up" with slightly distorted voices starting BEFORE they've even fully materialised back on the Enterprise transmit pads. How the fuck does that work ?

The Search for Spock : suffers a bit by being a continuation of WOK and then setting up the next one. Takes a while to get going.
Some good McCoy moments though.

The Voyage Home : gotta say, I always found some of the comedy in this a bit cringey, and I hadn't seen it for ages and I think it's aged badly. What is about some 80's films - they just don't seem to age well ? Also cringey is Shatner's "flirting" with the marine biologist. "As they say in your century..I don't even have your telephone number ho ho ho". She's got your number mate : "I'll find you" Yeah right. She'll be off to the other side of the galaxy. Big Laugh

The Final Frontier : takes the comedy even further in some ways but I don't why it doesn't bother me as much. You can't take it seriously at all really but there are some good set ups in it (the shuttle flying into the docking bay etc). Seems to be playing it for laughs all the way though : "I know this ship like the back of my hand"...CLUNK. "S-T-A-N-D...B-A-C-K.....Stand back?!" BOOM !
"Excuse me....what does God want with a starship?" etc etc laugh

The Undiscovered Country : trying to be a bit more serious and "relevant" with end-of-Cold-War allegories. Quite good but always thought it a bit implausible that Klingons would quote Shakespeare so freely : wouldn't they be so racially intolerant that any human literature would be beneath contempt ? Kim Catrall dons the pointy ears this time as the female Vulcan trainee officer ! Christian Slater as Sulu's messenger boy ! Lol.
Major plot hole/dumb villain moment : obviously the Enterprise can't be trusted with the location of the secret peace conference in case they sabotage it ...but OK let's tell Captain Sulu, cos it's not like he's best pals with them or anything ? He'll never pass the information on? DOH! How hilarious would it have been if they'd given Sulu a false location on purpose (knowing he'll obviously tell Kirk - let's send them to the wrong side of the galaxy and the evil deeds will succeed).Bounce

The Undiscovered Country

your reference about Klingons quoting shakespear, shakespear does revenge well therefore why would Klingons not like it?

wrath of kahn the best one, into darkness is a good reimagining of the story. undiscovered is a bit underrated, I quite like it.

hatchet 4/10 it reminds of the 1980's horror slasher films, no real shock value.

hatchet 3/10 again no real shock value.

saw 8/10 could have been a good sequal or spinoff for seven, had the same principle of punishing those that have sinned or wasted their lives.

saw 2 7/10 this was more psychological, nice link to the first film.

saw 3 6/10 not as good has the first two. they are trying to hard with the traps. I think after the 3rd film it should had a social impact on the characters like is the killer really dead when people started turning up dead in the style of jigsaw or is there a copy cat or a cult following.

Just starting watching the original Tron...haven't seen that for years either.
Remember being totally mystified by the plot when I first saw it in the cinema as a child, but being into the special effects.

Strikes me as being surprisingly "grown up" at least so far..the computer game stuff hasn't really started yet and the setting up of the plot seems very "adult" in terms of the language and motivation of the characters etc (I don't mean sweary or anything, just not particularly accessible or "dumbed down" compared to how I imagine it might be done today, and not really aimed at kids at all.)

A decent film I think 7/10.
I like the fact the computer graphics look clunky now : )I seem to remember a lot of it was actually "traditionally" done animation anyway ?) so refreshing to have special effects that look "artificial" and are not computer graphics trying to look like realistic objects.
Kinda in the same way I am nostalgic for early 80s synthesiser pop music where synthesisers actually sound distinctively electronic and aren't just used to mimic orchestras and real instruments.

RE: Last film you watched
tron is great, the sequal is good. iam glad that there is no remake of tron.

saw 4, 5, 6 and 7. 6 and 7 were good, 4 and 5 were just filling pieces of the story which did not nothing new expect how Hoffman become the second apprentice. 7 did a social impact within the film but it could have gone further with it. I liked how saw 7 ended where it all began in the first film. getting a horror franchise to be financially successful is hard has most times the sequals get worse the longer it goes on for unless the same people have a whole story to tell over serval films. on the dvds it is worth watching how they come with the traps they use, the rack in the 3rd film was originally designed to fold a person up but they have rules with designing the traps.

a nightmere on elm street (remake/reimagining) 8/10 they have freddy krugger a back story and explained why he was murdered by the parents which was not in the original but implied several times through out. the reason for the 8/10 is due to Jackie Earle Haley, who played Rorschach in the Watchmen, was great has freddy krugger and the facial design of the new freddy is based real burn victims, they used a bit cgi on one cheek. if the sequals had wes craven in involved then they would be good but the original film is the best one however the remake is a close 2nd.
