Wait Until Dark (1967)

I seem to have a craving for the classic movies at the moment. This is proof that thrillers don't have to contain bucket loads of gore and over-the-top special effects sequences to be powerful. This contains nerve shredding tension from start to finish and Audrey Hepburn's immaculate performance as a blind lady under threat from three crooks brings you in to the film and doesn't let go, right up to the heart-stopping ending. She is brilliant in a role outside of the comedy and musical movies she'd become known for. 5/5

Amélie 2 [2000] starring Audrey Tautou. I would write a review of the film but I can't - because there is no such film. The film, which is actually called Happenstance pre-dates Amélie by over a year. But when studio bosses saw how well the original film did at the box office, they cynically decided to rebrand this unconnected movie as a sequel to cash-in on its popularity. Despite the fact that Audrey's character in the film is called Irene, not Amélie. That said, the film is very enjoyable - once you work out that it's not a sequel in any way. It centres on how the butterfly effect in chaos theory affects a seemingly random group of people and how it changes their decisions and ultimately their lives. Beautifully written. [7/10]

With Russia With Love, classic Connery at his best 9.5/10.

300: Rise Of An Empire. very good new film in the 300 franchise. it is not a sequel to 300 as it actually starts before the events of 300 and neither is it a prequel as it finishes after the events of 300. it is a stand alone film that links into the events of 300.

it's just like 300. violent, bloody, raunchy and the battle sequences are amazing. Eva Green steals the show completely and puts in a sensational performance as Artemisa who is willing to do anything to achieve her goals

8/10
