I cant be the only one who never thought they would ever see Joey Barton and George Orwell mentioned in the same sentence

Very interesting draw in Europe with Hearts being drawn against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League Play Off tie, it's more or less Scotland v England and should generate interest on both sides of the border. Personally I think Hearts will get hammered but it would be great for Scottish football if Hearts were to at least run the tie close or by some small miracle win it. It's very much a David v Goliath affair.

Just read in the paper today that New York Cosmos will play their first game in more than 20 years at Paul Scholes's sell out testimonial match at Old Traford tonight.
The Cosmos, who were famous in the 1970's had players like Pele, Carlos Alberto, Franz Beckenbauer and Denis Tueart, folded in 1985. At their peak in 1978 they had average crowds of 47000. They are just starting up again with Pele as a figurehead and Eric Cantana as coach. They have some money behind them and hope to get into the MLS (Major soccer league) by 2013.

New York Cosmos are hoping to get back into the MLS by taking advantage of the fact that New York Red Bull's new stadium The Red Bull Arena is in the town of Harrison Newark, New Jersey and all the New York fans face a challenge to get there due to the notorious new york traffic it can take a few hours to travel the 13 mile distance.
Won't this be the same for the Cosmos fans, the reason New York built the new stadium in New Jersey was due to the fact there wasn't adequate space in the City & the surrounding areas would've put the travel time up by 2 to 3 hours.

New York's average crowd is around 18,000 (The league average is about 18,000-20,000) the stadium holds 25,000 so they're not doing bad & it looks like the Cosmos will have a fight on their hands to gain support.

the football league and prem have a lock-out with the press and agencies like reugters. so tomorrow (sunday) and monday and next week might see few match reports or non at all. the press and agencies want to be able to use twitter during the match which not covered by the agreement they have.

Good to see Tottenham fans taking to the streets to celebrate the signing of Joey Barton.

It's no embarassment to beaten by the greatest club side anyone as ever seen for a long long while, may sound stupid but atleast we were there to be made a "show" of, semi final of the FA cup, champions league final and premier league champions for the n n n ninetienth time not bad for a team that was apparently in transition. Been a while since you seen a bit of success hasn't it ? Did you manage to pick up a meaningless trophy over in the far east in pre season ? I hoped you milked it for what it's worth because your gonna have to wait until next pre-season to see another shiny peice of pointless steel lol
