What do you want to know? Cd or DVD writing? What discs to use? What speeds to burn to? What are you writing to disc? is it for a pc or dvd recorder? etc.

The more info you give, the increased chance that someone is likely to offer some assistance.

RE: Any tech guys on at the moment 4 advice ? plz
I would like to know where I'm going wrong, coz I'm sure I am...

I use a Pc, Running Vista home basic.
At the moment, all avi files that I download, I convert to mpeg2 so that my DVD writing program (cyberlink dvd suite- came free with the LG external dvd writer) will burn it (any other format and it doesn't recognise it).

I notice that nearly all the files I download are tagged CD1 and CD2 etc... in +- 900Mb sized files.

I have heard that burning these video files to CD is more common, and would like to know how to go about it...

I also have ashampoo for burning, but am not that familiar with it yet...

I have gone through sooooo many disks trying to burn so that my home DVD player can read them, but so far to no avail.

I have a bunch of Memorex CD-R and Memorex DVD+R 's that I need to fill up to ease the pressure on my External HD.

Is that what you need to help...?

Thanks for the responses (and the wit - RED)

for me what works is converting them from avi to mpeg 2 (using total vidio converter) both files come it ant around the 700mb mark. mpeg2 is usualy a little bigger, then i just burn em to disk 6 at a time using neros make data disk option.
most of the time the results are fine but occasionaly the audio goes out of sync.
the other option is 2 films per disk and there transcoded into lp dvd's takes me about half an hour but not every 1 has my rig, this would take a p4 up to 4 hours.

Any Babe pics posted are my Take on existing photographs. credits for the original images stays with the copyright holder if any rights apply.

Standalone DVD players are unlikely to be able to read video files burnt onto a CD even if they fit on it ok.
Some DVD players will only accept DVD-R or DVD+R, not both.
The disks also need finalising before they can be played.
Nerovision express does all that is needed.
If you search through the Tech section there has been a lot of help posted in the past about burning DVDs.

Will anything other than Nero (maybe something I have) finalise a video CD ? My DVD player does play video CD's ie:a CD with a film on it (don't know if there are different formats of these).

I'm basically trying to find out if I can accomplish this with the tools I have at my disposal, without having to purchase Nero.

What format / file type am I supposed to try burn as a Video CD...?

The Video CD format is different than normal DVD format. It uses mpeg1 not mpeg2.
Check this out.

This looks like a good alternative to nero, not tried it myself
