worst ever England football eleven
A team that would make the rest of the world think christmas has come early if had to play this england side please I defy you to pick an even crappier out fit. Unless of course Grahame Taylor is on the forum than the rest of us would be competing for second place.

Here is my worst england eleven
gk Scot Carson
LB Lee Sharpe yes Taylor actually played him there
CH Keith Curle
CH Gary Pallister
RB Lee Dixon
LM Andy Sinton
CM Carlton Palmer
CM Jeff Thomas
RM Steve Macmanaman (excuse the spelling)
CF Steve Bull
CF john Fashanu

Good luck picking a side that could lose to this lot.

Steve Bull? That's a ludicrous selection for a start. Have you managed to forget Michael Ricketts! Or Francis Jeffers, Brian Deane, David White or David Nugent? Ricketts makes Steve Bull look like Pele'.

And what about centre backs? I'd go for Anthony Gardner and Neil Ruddock, who would make your selections of Gary Pallister and Keith Curle look like a pair of Bobby Moores. Ruddock deserves to be captain.

Lee Dixon was a decent right back, there has to be a few that were worse than him.

RE: worst ever England football eleven
I thank you all for all your criticisms which are of course welcome. I would also like you to select a starting 11 which could get toppled by my chosen 11Smile

FYI sam cooke if dixon plays for england so should i. if dixon plays for england, if dixon plays for england if dixon plays for england so should i.

are you a wolves fan admin? bull was absolute pants for england true ther are players who could have been as bad as him but certainly not worse. Ruddock in his one game against nigeria acquitted himself well. Keith Curle? did you not see his performance against denmark in euro 1992 Stuart Pearce had to headbut a bloke to save Curle getting sent off for rugby tackling laudrup who was skinning him for fun that day.

No, not a Wolves fan, but Bull's scoring record for England was very good. 5 starts plus 8 sub appearances and 4 goals scored. How about Andy Cole, 15 caps and 1 goal, or many others I could mention. It's hard to believe that Michael Ricketts would have got 4 goals for England, no matter how many caps he got. If you discount the 4 goals Ian Wright scored aginst San Marino, it took him 32 matches to score 4 times for England.

You argument about Keith Curle is invalid, as you picked him at centre back and in the match against Denmark you mention above he was playing out of position at right back. You chose Lee Dixon at right back, not Curle. If you're claiming that Curle was England's worst ever centre back, stating that you think he was poor at right back doesn't support your case at all.

RE: worst ever England football eleven
these are all valid points but I was giving an example of how poor a center half Keith Curle was. Yes he played at right back out of position but his job was to man mark Brian Laudrup, Now A centre half should be able to man mark no matter what position he plays in. Martin Keough quite often played at midfield anchor role to mark the other teams chief play maker, which he did very well For Arsenal.

As for Steve bull I dont necessarily go for stats but subjective judgement. It ius subjective after all, Steve bull I felt was out of his depth at the highest level so much so he played his whole career(correct me if i am wrong) at second and third tier. Now you might think that is loyalty I think it is because none of the top managers rated him.

My idea behind the thread was to get people to list their worst ever 11 so feel free to give your worst 11 and we can discuss that.
Your input as ever is most appreciated

GK: Ian Walker
LB: Michael Gray
RB: Gary Charles
CB: Steve Howey
CB: John Scales
LM: Seth Johnson
RM: Tony Daley
CM: Carlton Palmer
CM: Paul Bracewell
ST: Peter Davenport
ST: Michael Ricketts

(Dis)honourable mentions also go out to, Steve Guppy, Robert Lee, Warren Barton, Earl Barrett, Lee Hendrie, Andy Gray (The one from Palace, for the easily confused.Wink) and Stan Collymore. Some of those selected, or even mentioned in dispatches, may well have been excellent for their clubs, but none of them showed anything worth a damn at international level.

I think there are probably worse central defenders than Steve Howey to put in there. Rob Lee, who got a dishonourable mention above, was also better than several.

There are also worse keepers than Scot Carson. He's not a great keeper by any means, but hes better than some to have pulled on an England jersey.

Stevie Bull's a tatter...

I agree with that lot but I feel one more should be added and that is a certain Mr Ian Wright, he was shocking every time he put on an England shirt infact you'd think he was a different person reading his statistics for the league, one of the best strikers around and yet never performed for England, that was a real shame!
