RE: Petition
Waves of relaxed censorship will forever come and go in this country. Unfortunately these waves never last very long because the moral minority will always get their way, and the reason they always get their way is because the moral minority are the people in power.

,
Yes, Stan, that's the way it has always been in the UK. No sex please, we're British. The rest of Western Europe, in the meantime, carry on regardless, accepting that adults have the the right to watch programmes of a sexual nature without any fear at all of the total collapse of civilisation as we know it.
As you say, the moral minority are so pleased with themselves from keeping such inappropriate filth off our TV screens.
At the end of the day it is achieving sweet fuck all, really, other than keeping them happy.
What a bunch of arseholes.

RE: Petition
Thanks guys (no gals?) for the good points above. As Scottishguy says, 100,000,000 is probably unattainable, but showing there are hundreds, perhaps a thousand people who are prepared to sign up is important because it gives a lie to the anti fun brigade whose petitions struggle to get 10 votes. We are up there with some pretty respectable causes - reforming leases, smear testing and psychology testing, all subjects that struggle to break into the wider public consciousness.
As for censorship waxing and waning, there are changes in both directions, mostly in television, but in general the trend is towards more relaxed rules. 20 years ago you could not buy a hardcore magazine in a newsagent, today no one bats an eyelid, though the big names and supermarkets dont stock them.
20 years ago you could not buy a hardcore film in a licenced sex shop, today is that what thery are for.
No politician wants to be the first to make a move, but once something is established and the initial hysteria has died down it becomes old news and no major group - political parties, churches, womens groups, newspapers - can be bothered.
Central Europe does not have the sort of free to air shows it used to, but perhaps we were spoiled, watching free shows that the locals often could not view because satellite TV used to be rare. What Europe does have is a long tradition of encrypted hard sex shows as part of normal programming packages, as well as sex only channels. Canal Plus and TVX1000 were well known for a range of content, though specific channels may have moved on. Its not non stop but its not banned either.

RE: Petition
Yes I think a lot of things have changed recently for example Babestation is now more and more on a par with Eurotic TV in terms of what you can see as each passing night goes by with the more hardcore dildo shows being restricted to PPV on freeview and this venture seems to be working out fine. Some people want to see more than just full nudity so I think Cellcast to be fair are just about getting the balance right now. As for the rest of the channels they have still got a fair amount of catching up to do in that respect. Has this petition made any difference, it's really hard to say, I certainly haven't seen the same amount of hassle coming from Ofcom in recent months towards these channels that I had seen in months previous. That could be down to a number of factors, this petition has perhaps got politicians requesting Ofcom lighten up on this kind of entertainment behind closed doors. I'm mean I'm sure Cameron and Clegg have had the odd cheeky wee flick through the channels from time to time, I mean what straight hot blooded male wouldn't. Also a lot of them are still in fear of upsetting the censors such as Elite and RLC to a certain degree. This petition for all we know could infact be making a difference it's just that we are completely unaware of what's being said or discussed behind closed doors.
