One of the guys who post as 'babestation' has freely admitted that the shows are deliberately tamed while they are on Freeview because Cellcast believe they have to do that in order to safeguard their presence on the platform, but refused to explain why they held that opinion.

The answer seems obvious but perhaps it is only obvious to me due to my high intelligence. Adult channels on Sky won't attract many complaints due to the adult section being quite separate to the other listings and not likely to be accessed accidentally (although I realise that a lot of people CLAIM to have watched Babestation accidentally). The adult channels on freeview on the other hand are no doubt stumbled across quite easily and if the material is too raunchy they are likely to attract a shipload of complaints. If I had an adult channel on freeview I would not welcome getting complaints all the time and would therefore tone the content down a bit to try and avoid it, which is exactly what Babestation happen to be doing. No surprise there. If anyone complains about an adult channel on Sky of course it's a fair question as to why they were in that section in the first place and also why they don't remove the adult channels completely if they don't like them. You can't blame Babestation or anyone else for wanting to avoid the nuisance of having to deal with complaints, so it's predictable that they will be more careful with freeview output to try and avoid them. A barrage of complaints would no doubt raise the issue of why they were even allowed on freeview at all, so it's a sensible course of action to act as a responsible broadcaster and play it safe.

This may be the case now,but next year i understand that all the adult channels on F/V will be moved in to one block right at the end of the listings,at the moment they are split in two.If this goes ahead is another matter, but thats whats planned at the moment,

Age is a state of mind.

If that happens the adult channels may be at the end of the listings but they would still be on the listings, if you see what I mean. On Sky the adult channels are not even on the main menu of channels. You have to choose Other and then look for the categories listed under there. So I understand Admiral Decker's point that someone's a lot more likely to find Babestation on Freeview without looking for it than on Sky.

Oh, come on! Don't be so modest – you're a superbrain, right?

Or perhaps not - you can't get your grammar right for starters.

How can a channel clearly labelled 'ADULT' in the EPG be "stumbled across" or otherwise accessed accidentally? Before you mention the 'up' and 'down' buttons, it's impossible to reach the Freeview babe channels by that route without first passing through an information screen warning of the following adult content from whichever direction you approach it. That's no different from having a separate listing – you still have to make a deliberate decision to view the channels. All but a few Freeview equipments have the facility to remove unwanted channels.

Why should there be a "shipload" or "barrage" of complaints? Ofcom's own research, gathered from focus groups which were heavily biased in favour of those sections of the community most likely to object, found that there was general public acceptance of the channels.

Even if there are a few complaints, the only "nuisance" BS would have to deal with would be to provide Ofcom with recordings of the alleged offensive material. Given how far other channels have had to go before Ofcom even investigate, they probably wouldn't be required to answer any questions, let alone suffer an 'In Breach' verdict. You would be hard put to justifiably describe anything shown on BS as "too raunchy".

The babe channels are now dealt with under advertising regulations, so if BS is so concerned about complaints it's difficult to understand all their fraudulent advertising (e.g. frequent references to Xtreme being a "porn channel" or in many cases "hard porn", and the admission by 'babestation' that they don't always send buyers the picture featured in the advert they have responded to).

Besides all of the above, the claim made was that Cellcast believe the taming is necessary to safeguard their presence on the platform. If you want to know what REALLY has to happen before a licence is revoked I suggest you have a quick read through Ofcom's final summing up of the Bang Babes situation.

Edited for typo.

Don't you have to click on Other to get a separate menu?
