Internet Explorer Problem

You're a Linux man, right? Which distro are you using? Firefox works fine for me; I'm currently using the latest version, 3.6.12, but the last few versions have been fine as well.

I'm still on Ubuntu 8.04
I only had the problem a few times and have not seen it for a few days now.
Not sure when my firefox got updated to 3.6.12 which it is now.

I've not had a problem with FireFox either. But I know quite a few people that have.

I think the problem arises from when they implemented there plugin-container.exe. Which was designed to keep FireFox running in the event of a plugin failure.

The thing works OK, but it makes plugin's more unstable. We just have hope they can iron out the bugs in it.

I also think it is the thing that is preventing certain plugin's from working right. (AdBlock Plus not working on certain items) As I think the plugin is not completely compatible with the container.

My Kubuntu 10.10 got the update last week - I've had 2 updates to Firefox in the two weeks that I have had Kubuntu installed - the updates seem to become available impressively quickly .

FWIW, if Ubuntu 10.10 is as good as the Kubuntu variant, it might be worth considering an upgrade (personally, I'm a KDE man ).

I had always used the K desktop since I started using linux in 2001 with Mandrake which later became Mandriva. I then used Suse, also with KDE for a few years until switching to Ubuntu 6.06 with gnome. Not liked KDE after 3.5 went to 4
I also have Mint on another computer which looks pretty good with a "modified" gnome desktop.

Since firefox updated to the latest version my real player downloader no longer works.. Interesting about the container, my firefox can run up to 94k at times.

I'm a longtime Firefox user who used to think it was great, but I've found it very slow recently. I decided to check out the most popular 5 browsers and see how they were for speed and I found that Chrome just edged out Opera for first place, although it's a close run thing. Safari was solid in 3rd from my experience and Firefox solid in 4th, leaving Internet Explorer with the wooden spoon. As i say this was looking for speed only and didn't take any other factor into account. For 'feel' I still like Firefox although I'm finding Opera to be to my liking too. Not sure about the feel of Chrome and Safari, and they probably rank behind Internet Explorer. Overall Opera looks like the winner to me, based on my own personal preferences.

Like Red earlier in the thread, I'm finding Firefox to be increasingly slow and unstable but I stick with it because it all those little add ons and tweaks make it so damned comfortable, and like TheWatcher I'm getting Adobe plugin issues with the current Linux/Ubuntu build of Firefox. The problem began for me when updates for my chosen build (9.04 Jaunty Jackalope) were gradually withdrawn, although that could be correlation rather than causation, I'm too lazy to check and too much a creature of habit to update my system to the new version to see if that corrects things. I know that somewhere, somehow, Firefox and Flash aren't communicating properly, since Flash keeps insisting I'm running one version behind the latest build and no amount of updating, deleting completely and reinstalling Flash, or any other measure seems to correct the issue. It's very annoying at times.

The flashplayer "executable" is /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
The file /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/libflashplayer.so is just a link to this executable.
There might be a hidden link here ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so where ~ is your home directory.
This should point to the "executable". If it is not a link, but an old file, Firefox will use that instead. It happenned to me.
You can download the latest generic linux version from Adobe and extract the libflashplayer.so file. All you have to do then is copy this file to /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/ directory using sudo
