RIP Billy Bonds

Billy Bonds West Ham legend, has died aged 79 he made 799 appearances for West Ham and also coached and managed them.RIP

An emotional farewell from me. He was a legendary player! Although Trevor Brooking got the man of the match when we beat Arsenal 1-0 in the 1980 FA Cup Final, all he did was score, Billy Bonds was the engine of the team. He contributed a great deal to keeping Arsenal out and keeping West Ham going.

He started out as a right back, transitioned into midfield, but by the time of the 1980 Cup Final he was centre back. He was a magnificent servant for West Ham! He was even manager of West Ham when I bought my first season ticket in 1993.

RIP to a true West Ham legend!

He joined in 1964 and played 799 times for them. Captained them to FA Cup wins over Arsenal in 1975 and 1980, and later as manager secured promotions to the top flight in 1991 and 1993. Named Hammer of the Year four times and honored with an MBE in 1988, Bonds had the East Stand renamed after him in 2019.
