Bea turns out to be a stage name referencing the dad who died when she was a wee babby. She manages to cover the Irish famine of the 1840s, the Easter Rising, the Gaelic League, and finish off on the Blasket Islands. All while heavily pregnant.
WDYTYA? Fred Sirieix
He went to France, unsurprisingly, and found a POW from WW2, and a frequent soldier from WW1 who was part of battles like Verdun and the Somme. He also found winemakers, and finally orphans.

9.4 Back to the Aberdeen area, at Stonehaven, with a contestant from Preston making the shortlist, but who doesn't win. The weather turns wet towards the end of the time limit.
LAotY 2024
9.5 Back to Liverpool, with a view of the Three Graces, and a big pink inflatable octopus. Another retread contestant, who doesn't make the shortlist on a hot & sunny day, but the winner had a good stylistic line, so that was nice.

The Bottom Line
Steve Clemons talks to Vali Nasr again, this time about prospects of a US deal with Iran, and then to a science magazine editor called Holden Thorp, about what it will mean if the US stops paying for research projects.

MTV, the British Invasion, racism & sexism, heavy metal, Live Aid, hip-hop & rap.
4/8 The Fight Against AIDS
How Rock Hudson's death obligated the government to give more of a toss about a viral pandemic. The inclusion of Anthony Fauci (in this 2016 series) adds a degree of unwitting comment about events of this decade.
TE
5/8 The Reagan Revolution
How surviving an assassination attempt worked in his favour, and they cover the Lebanon/Grenada debacle without mentioning any UK angle. James Baker turns out to be another politician whose real name was James Baker III.
6/8 Greed Is Good
How deregulation inspired crooks to screw the system, leading to the Wall Street Crash. John McCain (III) was lucky to get away with it after being accused of impropriety. Donald Trump also got a few mentions.

The Man With No Name
A charming repeat from 1976, with Clint Eastwood mostly talking 1-2-1 with Iain Johnstone, at his Carmel beach-side home. Having made his 3rd Dirty Harry film, he believes he won't make any more. Pauline Kael and Dilys Powell get to give their critic's views (PK hates his guts), whilst Sergio Leone and Don Siegel comment on his acting and directing.

9.6 Back to Hever Castle, with almost an Anne Boleyn drinking game, another hot sunny day, and many good results.

7/8 Tear Down This Wall
How Reagan accelerated the end of the Cold War, and Gorbachev helped.
8/8 Technology Gets Personal
PCs, mobiles, video games, space exploration and so on. Tom Hanks, one of the executive producers, turns up the most in this one.

On the whole a fun series, even from a wholly American perspective.

FZ talks to former Israeli leader Ehud Olmert, who at least seems interested in a peaceful future for Gaza, and has co-developed a serious new Middle East peace plan with some Palestinians.

Olmert returns, having written an op-ed about Israel committing war crimes now. No mention of how things were that different in his day, mind.
