For once she makes a good point though. Boris backers were always using the GE as a personal mandate, rather than the actual party mandate, to endorse him. Surely the same ones should all be pushing for a similar mandate for the new leader in a general election.

Would Sunak even contemplate a GE? And more to the point :

The finishing line is actually 258 backers because only then is it impossible for another candidate to get 100.

The ERG have decided as a group to unite behind the winner, whoever it is.
