Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it?

I'll go out on a limb & say, not strong enough, you might as well say, fuck it, cos a new lockdown is round the corner. The experts are still learning about this new mutation, but the bottom line is, if it spreads 60% more than the original virus, hospitals will not cope.
Treat this like a wartime situation, when the air-raid sirens sounded, people got off the streets & indoors in shelters etc. they didn't stay outside & risk getting blow up. This saved lives. The current generation are soft as shit & had it too easy for too long. Stop moaning about
Christmas, an excuse to get drunk, over-eat & spend money you don't have. Originally based on religion, when only around 11% of our population are committed to it. I'm tired of listening to spoilt selfish people.

I sometimes think it is too easy to just use the U - turn argument to describe decisions that - yes on the face of it - seem to be inconsistent, but are merely following a change in circumstance. In particular, the media need to be much more intelligent (fat chance) in jumping so easily to this particular narrative! It is nothing but mischief making from people who are given the airwaves to themselves too often to shape the story, and illicit a particular emotion/opinion forming reaction from those that watch or listen.

It merely shows that this coronavirus issue is ever and rapidly changing, and in many ways, the govt are racing to keep up, rather than being able to shape things. The one criticism that can be reasonably levelled at the govt, is that they have been trying to follow a halfway house approach, where they have too often thought - and acted - as though they could balance the need to battle the virus, while maintaining the maximum level of openness to the very environment the virus needed to thrive. Not possible, and where the medical/scientific establishment/advisers told Johnson to take certain action, he instead followed a more nuanced approach that didn't work.

It should be remembered that S.A.G.E made strong recommendations - based purely on the virus path and Johnson, instead of following it, took a route that factored in too much political expediency.

I am willing to bet that Professor Whitty and his colleague, made strong recommendations behind closed doors too, that Johnson then failed to follow to the letter and instead, only implemented a part of them.

I have said before, that it is easy to have no responsibility, yet appear to have all the answers, but Sir K Starmer has asked for the science, and only the science, to be followed - albeit with the benefit of hindsight, he appears to have 'read the room' much better.

Meanwhile here in NI, we are facing a six week lockdown, following on from similar circumstances, where the science was not the only consideration, but other factors were given undue weight. Add to that, the blame game between Sinn Fein (o'neill) and DUP(ed) (foster) when both are to blame for different reasons, and from leading the way in the UK, we are now in a mess!!

The new rules and guidance have not yet been published on the Gov.UK site so I'll wait for that before I review my Xmas plans as from experience what Boris says in a press conference is often only the headlines,

Doubt it will change my plans much as I'd already decided no house guests

Sensible people will have made sensible arrangements. The daft Twats who are still banging on about Dominic Cummings and his trip to Barnard Castle will use it as an excuse to do as they want.

I honestly wish he'd jumped off Beachy Head because with any luck they'd have copied that too.

And in mainland Scotland we're all going into Tier 4 on Boxing Day for 3 weeks - so a lockdown in all but name.

I rarely do angry, but I'm a little ticked off currently.

I can honestly say that thankfully, the bulk of people commenting in this thread get it, & get it far better than Boris the buffoon. In a time when this country needs strong leadership, we have a clown in control. I have never felt more leaderless in my life. I can think of a number of fellow Forum members who would clearly do a better job than our incumbent PM.
