TP with Tom Owen
He was Bill Owen's son but he did some acting of his own. Bill wasn't showbizzy apparently.

When Double Acts Fall Out
A top 10 but not presented like that. Oddly Little & Large were contributors but not discussed themselves. Poor Paul Chuckle was all on his todd. Bloody Sandi Bogle, Garry Bushell and Anne Diamond were among the many rent-a-mouths happy to witter.

Gareth Edwards' Great Welsh Adventure, pt 1 of 4
Welsh Rugby legend (& wife) get on the canal boat bandwagon, here on the Llangollen canal. Novelty comes because neither are great shakes at steering (or mooring).

GEGWA pt 2 of 4
The Montgomery canal, part of which needs restoration. They went through a small flight of locks but with help. They're a likeable couple as presenters.

Sean Bean on Waterloo 2015 Wavelength Films shown on PBS America

Perusing the epg my thumb hovered over the record button while I pondered for what seemed like a lifetime. Eventually I girded the loins and said it's not Ross Kemp or Danny Dyer so lets do it.

This two part, two hour film was made for the bicentenary of the battle and does a decent job of overviewing the the events of 18th June 1815 a few miles south of Brussels. We see the modern day battlefield and graphics following the action including the defence of Hougouemont farm and Picton's bayonet charge. Sean gets to demonstrate some of the weapons used such as flintlock muskets and cavalry sabres and he puts the ordinary soldier in focus by looking at accounts of the battle in letters and journals written by the participants. One sobering fact mentioned was that amongst the 50,000 casualties there were 2,000 limbs amputated, without anaesthetic.

One of Sean's starring roles was as Sharpe in the tv films 25 years ago and it's obvious that his interest in the battle is genuine. Thankfully there's an absence of Worsleyesque histrionics and Sean resists the urge to dress up in period costume and sticks to a South Yorkshire flat cap throughout.
Altogether much better than expected.

Next up: Dean Gaffney on the Battle of Thermopylae.
