I doubt Boris would give them up that easy.

Oh dear - as well as being a serial liar it looks like Boris may have corruptly given a “friend” grants when he was Mayor of London. I wonder if it’s a coincidence she’s an attractive young American who it’s claimed he visited regularly at her flat.

If only Thomas Cook hadnt gone bust and Labour are self imploding then might have been some scandal about that

The Labour Party have adopted a policy that will see a Labour government ban all private schools. This is a classic example of the politics of virtue signalling. The party is supposed to be about representing the working class & the least well off in society but this policy does nothing to bring around substantial change for them. No doubt they will claim that private schools give its students an edge & this will get rid of that but state schools are not a bastion of equality, they are a post code lottery, the best performing state schools are in the most affluent areas of the country so the students of former private schools will still be able to attain a distinct advantage.

There is a real question of funding, some supporters of the policy talk about selling off their assets but the sale of those assets will only provide a finite lump sum rather than an annuity that would last generations. Arguing that selling off their assets will fund this policy is like saying you will pay off your £150k mortgage with your £15k deposit, its economically illiterate.

If you are going to give £bns extra a year to give the Dept of Ed rather than spend it on incorporating private students why not spend it on improving standards in low performing schools in economically deprived areas & bettering teacher salaries? You know actually helping the people they claim to help. It might also be an idea to cancel the tax exempt status granted to private schools (means tested so you aren't pushing any into the red) to aide in that funding.

This is the problem with the hard left they would rather adhere to the purity of their ideological dogma leaving those that need help in the lurch than make compromises & achieve practical progress

The talk about selling off the assets of private schools is bollocks. They would have to nationalise institutions that in many cases have charitable status. They’ll be tied up in legal challenges for years and let’s see how many Labour MP’s and there supporters go ballistic.

Once again lots of unfunded promises to add to things like nationalising utilities and introducing a 32 hour working week.

They only need to be half competent to beat the Conservatives but with these policies they have no chance.
