Cell (2016) 3/10 i expected a lot more from a film staring John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson, although not one of Stephen Kings best works i still quite enjoyed the the book but this film version is a complete mess.

Frankenstein(1910)

Director J.Searle Dawley made the first film adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel through The Thomas Edison Studio. With an extremely effective score and Charles Ogle, perfectly cast and made up as the monster.Far more enjoyable than the recent efforts.

7.5/10

Sinister 2 (2015) A mother (Shannyn Sossamon) and her twin sons ( Robert Sloan & Dartanian Sloan) move into a rural house and supernatural occurrences soon happen. A thinly plotted sequel to a good first film, and what plot there is, offers few shocks or scary moments, but is often unpleasant. The lead actors make the best of the material, and the likeable James Ransone returns. Also starring Lea Coco & Lucas Jade Zumann(quite a sinister performance!). 5/10

Three Steps To The Gallows(1953)

An American officer on a cargo ship discovers that his brother has been framed by a gang of smugglers and is facing execution.A great drama from director John Gilling with a charismatic lead performance from Scott Brady.

Cohen & Tate(1988)

An often overlooked 1980s action thriller/road movie from talented director Eric Red.Roy Schneider is ever dependable as an ageing hitman paired up with Adam Baldwin(who is completely over the top as an up and coming assassin)to track down a young boy(Harley Cross),who witnessed a mob related murder and is asked to testify in court.Great action and set pieces and an exciting ending, along with a fine turn from Cross more than make up for some of the more uneven moments.

7.5/10

Kiss Me Deadly (1955) Mike Hammer (a superbly cynical performance from Ralph Meeker) finds no end of trouble late one night on the highway after picking up a supposed escapee (Cloris Leachman) from a mental institution. From this stunning opening it involves him meeting a series of villains,(Paul Stewart, Jack Elam, Jack Lambert), dames( Gaby Rodgers Marion Carr), cops(Wesley Addy) and random dodgy characters( Percy Helton), against a backdrop of inventive direction from Robert Aldrich and clever, varied camerawork. The dialogue is suitably hard boiled and there's a smattering of noirish cinematography,as well as daytime scenes filmed in Los Angeles. Filmed in the time of the Cold War and it shows it, its an excellent surreal experience. Also starring Maxine Cooper( excellent as Hammer's secretary, Velda) & Nick Dennis. 8.5/10
