^i heard some of the cast were complaining about the 'locals' throwing black pudding at them. they didn't realise this was meant as a sign of affection and appreciation. Smile

Ex Machina(2015) A young computer whiz(Domhnall Gleeson) is invited to his billionaire boss's(Oscar Isaac)retreat to test the artificial intelligence abilities of his humanoid(Alicia Vikander). Imaginatively filmed on stunning sets, backed by an intelligent, probing script written by Alex Garland, who also directed. The three leads provide fine performances. Thought provoking, certainly worth a further watch. Also starring Sonoya Mizuno. 7.5/10

The Shining (1980)

Stanley Kubrick's horror masterpiece. Jack Nicholson gives an iconic performance as a writer who takes a job as a caretaker at an isolated hotel during the Winter season and slowly succumbs to murderous madness. 37 years later this movie is still shockingly powerful. The numerous jumps and twists build the endless tension to an unforgettable finale. Awesome horror movie also starring Shelley Duvall and Scatman Crothers. 5/5

Mary Of Scotland(1936) The story of Mary Queen Of Scots. Katherine Hepburn plays Mary up against Florence Elridge as Queen Elizabeth with a reasonable grip on history and striking set design but a tendency to over sentimentalise Scotland in the Hollywood fashion(lots of bagpipes, kilts, local singing at any opportunity). Decent performances from the leads with Douglas Walton annoyingly camp as Darnley, Fredric March as Bothwell & John Carradine attempting an Italian accent as David Rizzio. Also starring Alan Mowbray.Directed by John Ford, more famous for his Westerns. 6/10

Rabid Grannies[aka Les Memes Cannibles](1988)

A horror comedy from director Emmanuel Kervyn about two elderly woman who receive devil worshipping gifts that make them behave very badly indeed. Plenty of gore for schlock fans and some genuinely funny moments make this curio quite enjoyable and not the total abomination the title suggests.

7/10
