Pride(2014) Gay and lesbian activists offer their support to the miners during their strike in 1984. An amusing, well acted, sometimes heart warming film with decent characterisation, perhaps a bit overlong at just under two hours. Starring Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Bill Nighy, Ben Schnetzer,George Mackay, Andrew Scott,Paddy Considine, Jessica Gunning & Faye Marsay. 6.5/10

Kick-Ass, up there with being one of best comic book superhero films. Loved the film so much that on Blu Ray I have it both as a standard and steel book, hitgirl steals the show in this film 9.3/10.

Child 44(2015) During state sponsored repression in 1950s Soviet Union, a disgraced and exiled military officer(Tom Hardy) investigates the crimes of a possible serial killer of young boys. Absorbing in the main, though rather grim and slow, the films main asset is not the murder mystery but the portrayal of repression and fear in the USSR at the time. Also starring Noomi Rapace,Joel Kinnaman, Fares Fares, Paddy Considine & Gary Oldman.6.5/10

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

This is set before the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark where here our intrepid archaeologist is asked to rescue a North Indian village's kidnapped children and retrieve their lost Sankara Stones. I always find this one far less enjoyable than both Raiders and Last Crusade. There is the famous rip-roaring mine cart chase near the end which is always a joy but the film is a lot goofier and a lot more bizarre than the other films in the series. The violence is over the top for this franchise, there's negative stereotypes of Indian and Chinese culture and too many jokes which get tiresome fairly quickly. As a fan of Indy I'll always watch if I can, but overall I don't enjoy it anywhere near as much as his other adventures. 2.5 / 5

A League Of Their Own (1992) The adventures of a ladies baseball team formed during World War 2. Amusing comedy/drama populated by likeable characters. Tom Hanks is excellent, playing slightly against type, as the most unsympathetic character in the film, an ex player with a drink problem who's last chance is coaching this team. Lori Petty & Geena Davis as feuding sisters are very good too, backed up by Rosie O'Donnell & Madonna(surprisingly, pretty good!). The modern ' bookends' could have been dropped or shortened, however. Also starring Megan Cavanagh,Bitty Schram,David Straithairn & Garry Marshall. 6.5/10

Woman in black 2 - Angel of death 6/10 decent sequel but lacks the creepiness and suspense of the original.

Batman: Mask of The Phantasm, one of the best Batman/DC animated movies and was the first DC animated films to use CGI 9.3/10.

The Changeling(1980) George C Scott plays a music teacher and a widower who rents a house which appears to be haunted. Creepily effective film with a decent back story and fine central performances from Scott & Trish Van Devere(Scott's real life wife). There's also an good piano soundtrack. Also starring Melvin Douglas. 7.5/10
