Exactly it is discussion thread and it is encouraged Matt. We all have our own theories as tov what may haver happened and if we don't discuss/chat are we just going let the rolling media drag us along with it's own theories & such What is wrong with us discussing this putting our on thoughts out there and of course we all should have a degree of sympathy for the relatives involved, but above all this has to be one of the great mysteries of our time at present. I would go as far as to say that it could be possible that they may never recover the black boxes

I don't have any theories on what happened as I don't even have half of the relevant salient facts. There is so much garbage out there either directly from the 24hr news media desperately trying to drive the narrative because there is so little actual concrete evidence yet or by the sudden deluge of newfound amateur aviation experts talking like seasoned professionals on matters they clearly have no knowledge on.

"of course we all should have a degree of sympathy for the relatives involved" - wow don't stretch yourself there with some basic human decency. It is after all an unsolved mystery and therefore open season for any cock and bull conspiracy theorist to have a shot at.

Yes Ukraine has (eventually) responded. They say that the Oleg Chustrak who can be found online described as military/secret service is not the Oleg Chustrak who was a passenger onboard flight MH370. They say that the Oleg Chustrak on the plane worked for UTEL, a state owned mobile phone company. They gave no information on the other guy from the Ukraine, Sergii Deineka, except to say that like Oleg Chustrak he had passed the background checks.

There have been another couple of sightings of possible debris close to the area of the Indian Ocean currently being searched. A plane spotted a wooden pallet and some unidentified small items and now a French satellite has produced an image showing possible debris although the items have not been described in any detail so far. These new sightings have certainly increased the hope of a breakthrough being made by continuing to search in that area.

The strange thing is that when MH370 was being loaded there was a problem with the scanner used to check the cargo and as a result the cargo loaded onboard the MH370 was never scanned as it normally would be.

In the daily press conference today it was said that the call being investigated isn't a call the pilot made but a call he received. It was described as a 2 minute phonecall shortly before the plane took off which was made to the pilot by someone using a a pay-as-you-go SIM card obtained under a false identity.

The Maldives sighting has been discounted because it conflicts with the satellite data. It's a choice between the two, as it's thought they both can't be right, and so the investigators have decided that the satellite data is the more credible.

That isn't necessarily so. The pilots could have successfully extinguished the fire but have been overcome by smoke in doing so. Or despite the fire being extinguished the crew and passengers may have suffered hypoxia.

This is no ordinary plane crash. Somebody has gone to a lot of trouble to try and make sure this plane is never found. If this debris in the southern Indian Ocean is real it means that the plane was deliberately flown to one of the remotest places on Earth. If nobody's allowed to question why somebody would do that it's simply playing into their hands, because not only do they make the plane almost impossible to find but nobody's allowed to draw attention to what they have done either. That would make it a big win-win for them.

RE: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
The media are reporting that the plane was fitted with Uninterruptible Autopilot System. This has been fitted to every Boeing plane since 2009 to ensure another 9/11 can't happen. If the pilots were aware of an attempted hijack they may have quickly engaged the Uninterruptible Autopilot, and if the hijackers then knocked the pilots out they would have found that there no way of flying the plane themselves because no doubt to their dismay the Uninterruptible system would have irrevocably locked the autopilot on.

If the pilot had pressed a button designed for the event of a hijacking, wouldn't you expect it to trigger a distress signal, though.
