RE: England V Australia 2013-14 Ashes - ODI & T20 Series
Since Ashley Giles has been in charge England,s one day team have gone backwards, they have packed the side with bit and pieces players, people who bowl and bat a bit rather than picking out and out specialists. Carberry, Jordan, Stokes and Wright are not good enough to play for England and should never have have been picked. Bopara has failed too many times and it,s time he was dropped for good and since Joe Root was promoted to open in the tests he looks a shadow of the player we saw in the winter and needs to be sent back to play county cricket so he can regain some confidence before the next series in Australia.

^ bit harsh both sides "rested" players and they always do. I doubt many of the paying public were expecting to see exactly the same sides that played in the five day game.

Not harsh at all, it was always likely that a couple of players would be rested but 5 was just too many, and their replacements were not good enough. It would have made far more sense to have played people like Tremlett, Panasar, Onions and Woakes who are far more likely to be included in the next touring party down under.

Rankin's been a find in the one days...

Beefy says that he should be included in the next tour 'down under'.
And I don't think that the selectors are brave enough to ingnore him.

Onions is injured though isn't he? And Panesar hasn't been picked for an England ODI for 6 years.

Onions has played the last 2 Championship matches.

England under Giles have adopted a safety first approach, preferring a long batting lineup rather than using specialist bowlers, just in case the top order failed. Panasar is a very high quality spinner and is far more likely to take wickets than Tredwell or Root. The team that was put out last night was a throwback to the 70s and 80s and nothing like the modern day approach other teams adopt.

Well I would not disagree Monty would take more wickets that Tredwell. He is indeed a quality bowler (but to me would be able to do it on all wickets not just spin friendly ones to be considered high quality) and I don't think he was ever in the frame for an England recall at this moment in time after his recently highly publicised incident.
As for the make up of the team from what I can see the Aussies played 3 specialist bowlers 2 all rounders and a batsman who bowls a bit. Seems similar to England's set up to me.

Despite resting too many players,England's bowling attack did an ok job Morgan used the well most of the time.Australia amassed 2 large totaals which England's 8 batsmen couldn't chase down.
Australia have rotated & rested bowlers & batsmen in ODI's for years, but usually one at a time.Anderson,Swann ,Broad & Woakes could've played 2 matches each.
This match was a Final yet Swann & Broad are both available for Saturdays CB40 Final,so they can't be tired anymore.

A bowling attack of Tremlett, Rankin, Woakes, Onions and Panasar, is a far superior lineup to the garbage we had to put up with in this series. I am well aware of the problems that Monty has had just lately but he is still a far better spinner than Tredwell. As for the the Aussie lineup, Watson unlike the England players could be considered a genuine all rounder and Johnson is a strike bowler who bats a bit, add to them, Mckay, Faulkner and Ahmed and you have a have decent attack.
