RE: Football Banter
the reason i sed ramos was cos i thought they put him at centre back but how can u when like u sed chellini and especially kompany last season shud be centre backs no doubt about that! i suppose cud play him at rite back then cos he does play there but think he prefers playing at centre! not 1 player who got to the champions league final in it either!

have your own opinion, lead dont follow.

I was trying to accommodate Ramos, so I just put in him at right back.

I totally agree about Kompany, how he hasn't made the team i don't know, was a rock at the back for Man city last year, the premier league has been majorally over looked.

You know what Dan, I think what you wrote probably is a stroke of genius and for probably for some people hits the nail on the head.
I would agree with what you said, but I would add by saying I think the game today compared to 13 - 20 years ago, probably lacks the physicaiities of that era, but many will probably disagree with me.
Sky's coverage has seen to it that the game is what it is today.
Not only that, I would say that the one thing that has risen more considerably than anything since those days is the actual cost of going to a game.
I think prices back then were probably just affordable, but now I think today you would probably need to re-mortgage your house.

As far as refs, I think it is high time they were able to explain their decisions after a game. Not every week but most weeks on 606, I
hear people asking why refs don't explain things after a game. I think for too long refs have been able to walk away from a game without explaining himself to the media. I understand that they will attract criticism, but I would think if it wass possible I can't see why
ref's reports cam be published online (or maybe the parts that concern certain incidents) can't be publishes so that then we fans
have an understanding of that decision.

I didn't write it, I was quoting someone else.

RE: Football Banter
Also going back to the Ballon D'Or awards, I'm puzzled as to why Roberto di Matteo wasn't nominated.

What he did last year was nothing short of a miracle after Chelsea were in a bit of a mess after AVB was sacked and with about half the season left they won the Champions League against all odds and also won the FA Cup.

Thats more than what Mourinho did last season and Guardiola did last season and by the way Guardiola's nomination puzzles me by the way as for 6 months last year he has been out of management and only won the Copa Del Rey with Barcelona.

I can understand Del Bosque getting nominated after guiding Spain to Euro 2012 success, but I don't think its as impressive as what Di Matteo did at Chelsea last year.

Also going back to Guardiola if he is getting nominated then I guess Roberto Mancini and Jurgen Kloop can feel a little hard done by after their domestic leagues with Man City and Borussia Dortmund. Also I think Borussia Dortmund did the double last year by winning the domestic cup along with the league, so thats even more impressive than what Mourinho did at Real Madrid.

Also here is the list of journalists, coaches and captains and who they voted for:

I think the Austrian and Palestinian captains were taking the piss by voting for BalotelliBounce

RE: Football Banter
The Ballone D'or is just an opinion poll of the who's who of football. It really means very little.

Messi might have done all those great things last season but I am sure he would give back the accolades and the award if he could turn back time and take that penalty against Chelsea again.

Once upon a time no one would have given two shits about these awards. Funny how things like this also creep into the watered down piss we call football too, eh?!

RE: Football Banter
The whole thing stinks of corruption and Sepp Blatter, even their video games are fixed!

Yes Messi deserved the Ballon d'or simply for his goal's record and carrying on from his last award, nobody can deny he is the best in the world.

What bugs me is the FIFA team of the year, clearly if you dont play in La Liga you won't get a look in.

IKER CASILLAS, DANI ALVES, MARCELO, GERARD PIQUÉ, SERGIO RAMOS, ANDRÉS INIESTA, XABI ALONSO, XAVI HERNANDEZ, CRISTIANO RONALDO, RADAMEL FALCAO, LIONEL MESSI.

The player's in red in my opinion aren't worthy of a place in that team at all.

Casillas im not sure about as he captained spain at the euros to victory and real madrid to the La Liga title last year but did he really do that much? For me either Cech of Chelsea for his heroic saves in the champions league final, without him chelsea would never have won that. Another shout for keeper would be Buffon, Juventus going unbeaten all season and a few trophies along the way is no fluke, also Captaining both Juve and Italy a team which also made it to the euro 2012 final.

Pirlo was immense at the euros and played a massive part in Juventus' anbeaten season is more worthy of a place than alonso. You could take alonso out of the spanish team and play busquests, fabregas, cazorla and spain would have still won the euros, on the other hand if you took pirlo from italys team, no way would they have got to the final.

Chiellini, again playing a massive part in Juventus success and italys run in the euros, not even mentioned. Surely he's more worthy of ramos who spent most the year arguing with mourinho and skying a penalty to virtually knock Real out the champions league....

Kompany, Toure, Both immense for city and winning the premier league for the first time in a season like last all deserve to be in that team.

I mean come on how Dani Alves and Pique get in there is beyond me really, Pique spent most the season out injured or couldn't get off the bench at Barca and mascherano was ahead of him in the pecking order, Pretty much the same as Alves, Pep was playing a 3 -4 -3 more often than not last year with adriano and tello on the wings while alves was sat on the bench or injured and hasn't performed well for brazil, I remember seeing him subbed many times for poor performances, yet he still makes it.
