West Ham next week should open a few eyes one way or another. We went to Deportivo without Gerrard & came away with a 1-0 win on our march to Istanbul, or Biscanbul as the Deportivo game became know. I'm not sure having Shelvey down the middle will work against a big Sam side, he should give Adam Morgan a shot.

Boss having Lucas back yesterday, player and a half the lad. He frees up Allen and Gerrard to play a good 10 or 15 yards further up the pitch with no fear. Rodgers said we were only seeing 50% of what Allen had in his locker playing the controller role, you could see that yesterday. The shackles are off him and Stevie with Lucas back. Lucas gives the other lads confidence to go and effect the game in the final third, they trust him to protect the space behind them. He's absolutely key to us. Top, top player.

Jonjo Shelvey should be one of the first names on the sheet for me, he idolised Gerrard as a kid and tried to copy everything he did on the pitch and you can see it in his game. If he starts most games he'll be good for 10-15 goals a season no probs.

Ngoo deserves a chance with the first team I think. He's so unpredictable and unorthodox, deceptively quick, not your typical big striker. Good finisher as well.

Hope he's not frozen out for being a big lad.
