My brother was telling me about when this religious channel was showing the final of the 100m sprint in this years Olympics. They saw that Tyson Gay was competing in the final and they were worried his name would cause some offence. So instead of calling Tyson Gay by his last name Gay, they decided it would be better and less offensive to call him Homosexual

Heard that story too. The report ended with "I'm devastated" said the 27 year old homosexual

It didn't happen quite as reported but essentially the story is true!!

The American Family Association, a right-wing Christian group, had an automatic filter built into their computer system which automatically changed some words in their "One News Now" news releases (and before you condemn them, remember that this forum has one as well, eg if you try and post the word t/w/a/t it automatically changes it to twit ).

Anyway, their system changed "gay" to "homosexual" and the rest, as they say, is history:



And "history" is the appropriate word, as this happened in 2008. The reason the story has re-emerged was not just because of the Olympics but the Daily Mirror tried passing it off a couple of months ago as "breaking news"!

The story is not entirely baseless. There are 3 main differences between it and what actually happened.

1) It occurred in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, not this year's Olympics as dan g stated.
2) It was a Christian website, not a TV channel.
3) The name was changed by an automatic word filter, not by anyone's deliberate editorial decision.

gutted for sarah stevenson, but that mohamed bloke still in taekwondo! hopefelly shud be a gud day with sailing at least 2 silvers, think it will be hard for the men sailors to get gold, they need to beat the aussies with a boat in between and also bmx and crashes hopefully not the british riders and the mens 4 x 400 mite sneak a medal, just hope anuva american breaks a leg lisa dobriskey in the 1500 metres, cum on lisa home advantage make it count, stay with them then fly past them in the home straight, i can dream

BMX is on at 3pm, if you haven't watched it before, give it a go. Yeah the crashes add to the excitement of it all, but the speed and skill of the riders is very impressive, and we have two great competitors in the mix.

i dont think the sailors lived up to their billing, we expected quite a few gold after topping the sailing medal table in the previous 3 olympics! in the end it was 4 silvers and sum were close to gold but in the end 1 angry man did it again, sir ben ainslie wot a man
