RE: England Test Match Tour of India 2024
Aside from the crazy shot from Root, England missed a trick yesterday, all they had to do was wait for Bumrah to get through his initial spell & capitalize on a bowling attack without Ashwin. Credit to Siraj who bowled well at the tail, which for once didn't contribute., with the last 5 wickets falling for 20 runs.
Scoring quickly is counter-productive at times. Anderson & to a greater extent Wood had a little over 2 sessions rest, Wood looked a shadow of what he produced in the first innings when he gave it all bowling his most overs ever. England looked poor in the field, tactics & selection have been found out. A 41 & 34 year old pace attack, 2 inexperienced spinners, & your best batsman having to play the allrounder role which I believe has contributed to his poor batting output in this series.

That was one of the lowest points in England's book of historic lows. A batting performance that would shame a school team. All this in a single day after (albeit resuming) Jaiswal completed another double! Additionally, two run outs that were comical, and an umpire that apparently needed the third ump to determine one of them when the batt(er) was not even within the same post code as the crease.

Singularly unimpressed with Stokes lamenting the 'umpires call'. Today it went against England, but it's parameters have not changed, and England have benefitted many times from 'umpires call' falling in their favour, and Stokes knows it!

I sometimes think that the result of the match is secondary to stubborn adherence to the 'ideology' with this England team

The overarching philosophy I don't particularly have an issue with but there are times when the bigger picture needs to be taken into account with the bat.
At a day three starting point 207/2 it seemed important to my mind that batsmen were mindful of what the ball, pitch and Indian bowlers were doing. Added to this should have been an understanding that the England bowlers needed a decent rest before being asked to go again.

Unfortunately some of the batting was rather indiscriminate and not terribly judicious.
Philosophy cannot be for it's own sake.
Selective judgement needs to be applied.
Positive and decisive intent yes.
Indiscriminate recklessness no.

Bit more mindfulness required for me.

Bairstow has been backed but must be under pressure from Lawrence. Robinson and Atkinson could come into the frame. Bashir would take pressure off an over bowled Root.

Your opening paragraph spells out where - I think - most sit on this issue!

I will tell you one more thing England's 'Baz or bust' approach tells us - they are not playing for trophies - least of all the WTC

Results come first both matches and series wins. It's become brainless, embarrassing at times.

Jaiswal has taken to Test Match Cricket like a duck to water. On is debut against the West Indies he made 171 and has now backed that up with 2 double centuries against England.
