RE: County Championship 2022
Somerset set out today to pull themselves clear of relegation against Warwickshire - also facing the trap door! Not going too well for the Cidermen as they have struggled either side of a pretty lengthy rain break. Somerset CC cannot shake this princess (never the bride) pauper tag, as they either miss out at the last hurdle when in with a shout of the title, or alternatively, they find themselves -as this time too - seeking to avoid the drop!

Lewis Gregory is doing all he can with a more than decent unbeaten half century plus, but from here - both he/they have a lot of work ahead of them - currently at 164 for 8

Gloucestershire look to be relegated. Either Somerset or Kent as the other side for the drop. the Bears have suffered with bowling injuries, now helped by the return of Brookes & the signing of Siraj, they must surely escape. Can't rule out Yorkshire or Northants getting dragged down, but unlikely. As is often the case the weather usually plays a part late in the season.
At the top, Surrey were held up by Northants with a century from Gay (145) who lost is wicket late in a shortened day, after adding 155 in a 4th wicket stand with Koegh (75 no) A draw would more than likely take Surrey back above Hampshire, who I have as slight favourite to win the Championship, as their 3 pronged pace attack of Abbas, Abbott, & Barker are approaching 150 wickets between them.

Quite some race for the line here Booms. A great week ahead of us as the championship reaches its conclusion.

Lancashire have been deducted a 6 point Championship penalty, after a disciplinary hearing. Yorkshire blocked out for a draw in last weeks Roses match which all but ruled out their title hopes.

As Financial Domination continues to grow, less enthusiasm is required when putting on a show.

Iā€™d be inclined to add the other 6 points to their punishment as the statement Lancashire have issued fails to address the simple fact they were yet again at fault.

RE: County Championship 2022
Game of the round was the Div 1 match at Headingley, as visitors Essex came out on top with a 1 wicket win. The 9th wicket had just fallen with the score level, & after 4 days in which the game had swung back & forth, a tie would've been a fair result.
Yorkshire had to bat on day one with conditions at there worst, playing with the floodlights on throughout. Yorkshire lost any chance of bowling in the same favourable conditions as rain wiped out the final sesson Replying to a below par 134, & despite the sun shining, Essex fared little better, & at 105-6, any substantial lead looked unlikely, until Lawrence (61) & Snater (46) added 76, which guided then towards a handy lead of 91. A big turning point came at the end of day 2, as Hill was dismissed in the last over, & Yorkshire closed on 87-2.
Day 3 saw opener Bean score his maiden Championship 50 in only his 2nd match, but he was out soon after, as the home side slid to 158-7 at lunch, with Essex in command. Coad turned the match again & helped set Essex a target of 162 with 69 off 70 balls, including 10 fours & a six, another maiden 50.
Yorkshire bowlers sensed a chance, as Alastair Cook (35) was eventually dismissed by Patterson, who had beaten his bat regularly, after a long spell had brought him 4 wickets at little cost, Essex were rocking at 64-6. when the last recognized batsman, Rossington went at 93-7, the target still looked distant. But with the miserly Patterson & Coad out of the attack, the runs flowed, with another counter-attacking knock from Snater, that took his side within sight, at 156. the return of Coad & Patterson brought a wicket each, but too little too late as fittingly Snater (65 no) scored the single required for victory.
