Dangerous Autons would be good again - I don't think we've seen enough of those. Christopher Ecclestone's 9th Doctor had a good intro story with those and I feel there could be more to explore with those. Murderous mannequins - sounds fantastic!

I remember the Ogrons (who were under the Daleks' influence), would love to know if they were able to break free from them and develop into a race of their own.

Now I know with Doctor Who that you should not let the hype get to you but I have to say the fact that there are storylines revolving around The Cybermen, Daleks and...a T-Rex has to be encouraging....no dance routines or 'bad alien turns out to be misunderstood outcast' plots please. Darker storylines would be really good but only time will tell (no pun intended there!)

I'll be approaching it with trepidation ....who remembers all the production team guff put about in the Colin Baker / Sylvester McCoy days about making the Doctor "darker" and "more mysterious" and all that seemed to result in was an unsympathetic lead always bickering with his companion (in the case of Baker) and in the case of McCoy I kind of forget but there was a lot of nonsense about the "Hand of Omega" and then Arthurian legends meeting Cybermen.

I think if it tries to get either too self-referential or too gloomy the series would lose the good-will of the general public at large (if it hasn't already? I get the sense it's no longer quite the "appointment viewing" in the schedules it was when it was first relaunched?) .

People can hark back to how William Hartnell was amoral and grumpy and an anti-hero, but that really only lasted about a season, and it was a pretty crowded Tardis with 3 other "leads" in it. The two teachers and the grand-daughter character were supposedly who the audience were to identify with. New Who has also kind-of already done "reintroducing/reinventing the Doctor seen through the eyes of the companion" with Rose and almost every subsequent companion, with varying degrees of success : there's probably only so many angles you can take it with that - hopefully with the bigger age gap we'll at least now be spared all the "wanting to jump the Doctor's bones" we've had from far too many recent companions, that's surely been done to death now - Rose, Martha etc etc..

But Peter Capaldi could be interesting ... if he isn't sabotaged by the stories, the way that Baker C and McCoy arguably were.

I've just seen a review of the opening episode which I believe is a 90 minute special. The reviewer, like me is no fan of the recent and comical, 'run around aimlessly waving a sonic screwdriver in the air' weak plotlines.
However, he said the new Doctor is indeed played slightly darker and the whole story is set at a slower pace without ever being dull. He was very impressed with the way the new Doctor was portrayed as it brought out the best from Coleman, as she struggles to adjust to the new Doctor.
I'll wait to actually see it myself before I fully believe it
