RIP Gary Speed

Nobody has mentioned the possibility like with David Carrodine or the inxs man Micheal Hutchens that it was some autoasphyxiation thing. No suspicions circumstances and depression is easier for his family and friends to deal with.

Sudden death like this, even if it appears suicide, are ALWAYS investigated. There's no mention of a suicide note. There was a film director a few years ago, Adrienne Shelly, who disturbed a bugler, She was knock unconscious but the man thought he had killed her, so he took her to the bath room and tried to make it look like suicide (in fact it was this that killed her). If the police say they are looking for nobody else etc, they know EXACTLY what happened. The slightest doubt and an investigation is carried out.

Except for the Daily Star that is, as the Star strangely ignored the subject, although they did make other football-related tweets that day.

From what I've heard, that was the paper doing the 'outing'

Why does anybody do it at all. I know there's the Gay thing people are talking about. But in this day and age of trendy gay husband? Who'd give a damn about that? Certainly wouldn't be worth him taking his life.

Let's not speculate about what happened to him yet until the inquest is completed. Let's all stop and pause and reflect on Saturday at 3pm and honour the memory of one of the games finest ambassadors and legends. also I hope the PFA also find some way to honour him too at their awards dinner. I would posthumously give him the Manager of the Year award for what he achieved with Wales in such a short space of time.

The strange thing about all of this is the fact that Gary Speed showed no clues into just how sucidal he must have felt going by this interview, he comes across as perfectably normal in this clip and not of a man planning is own demise as he even talks about the future.

I remember when he played for cov and lived in mancetter warwickshire...I used 2 play pool with him in his early career..he was a decent fellow...I'll tip my hat off 2 him...and show some respect..poor lad.....feel for his family

The more I read about this, the more sad I become. It shows how little we all know of one's private life, what they must be thinking, even when that person is someone in the public eye as much as Gary was.

Its desperately sad, and the Beautiful Game has lost one of it's most decent and honest sons.

Safe passage Gary, rest in peace.

It is very sad. I believe that Gary was going to be 'outed' as having had a gay relationship with a player.

Gary Speed Memorial match will see Wales take on Costa Rica ON February 29th.

The Central American side are seen as an appropriate choice because they were also Wales' opponents when Speed made his international debut in May 1990.

"This will be an opportunity to celebrate the life and achievement of a great servant to Welsh football, both as a player and a manager," the Football Association of Wales said in a statement.

The match will take place at Cardiff City Stadium on 29th February at 7.45pm.
