RE: Football Banter
Quote:An owner is well in his right to sack a manager if he feels it's the right thing to take the club to the next step, it's their money at the end of the day so can do what they please, managers don't run football clubs, chairmans and owners do.

Of course he's entitled as the owner of Southampton to make decisions like hiring or firing managers, but it doesn't make it the right decision. The timing of the decision doesn't make sense at all right in the middle of the season when Southampton are the form team in the fight from relegation. According to a Sky Sports poll 94% of people thought it was wrong for Southampton to sack Adkins. Pochettino according to Gullieum Balague and Sid Lowe is highly regarded in Spain and yes perhaps the Southampton board looked at him to take them to a new level. But it still makes this decision as crazy because the team has to adapt to a new style of play and communication problems could arise seen as how the new manager speaks no or barely any English when there is a strong contingent of players at Southampton that speak English.

Quote:If the new manager does a good job and keeps them in the league and moves them up the table fans will be happy.

Certainly.

But if things go badly wrong for Southampton and end up being relegated well the Southampton owner has nobody, but himself to blame.

I wasn't saying it was the right decision by any means, 94% of people may think it's the wrong decision now, but say southampton end up finishing 10th you could look back and say that it was the right decision.

However if they end up relegated the owners will be the ones who look daft and then we can all say for sure it was wrong. Look what happend to west brom when they sacked di matteo, they were in roughly the same positions and bringing in a new manager helped them go on to be an established team. On the other hand you look at wolves sacking mick, that didn't work.

We'll just have to see what happens at the end of the season.

RE: Football Banter
Possibly the worst timing of a sacking I've ever seen. Currently, Saints are three points clear of the basement, have shown they can grind results this season, and all of their forwards are in goal scoring form. That's credit to Adkins. The same bloke who's got them two successive promotions. Really disgusting decision for me. The new guy was obviously already in place behind the scenes weeks ago, as he says he has 'been researching the players'.

I predicted Southampton would survive. I'm not so sure now - this may have a bad effect on the players and the fans have got to be questioning the timing. If it all goes down the pan now, the chairman probably deserves to be hung from Netley Abbey.

Also can anyone tell me why he didn't get booked for it?! The reason being Mario Balotelli lifted his shirt against Man United "Why Always Me" to celebrate his goal and he got a yellow for it!! So have the rules changed?!
