I know that the majority of the posts on this forum is all about the so-called best league in the World English Premiership but tonights Old Firm derby north of the border put your Man Utd v Chelsea games etc to shame. Up here we had end to end football, good old fashioned brawling including numerous yellow cards and 3 red cards and to top it all off an all out brawl at the very end of the game between Neil Lennon and Ally Mcoist. Great entertainment and that's not even half the story.

i watched that game not for the quality but for the fact i knew players were guarenteed to get sent off just was'nt expecting that many, the SPL is a piss poor league here's why, you take an average player from the championship and throw him in your league and he becomes the best player in the SPL. how does it put our games to shame ? football isnt about kicking fuck out of everyone in sight, maybe in scotland it does because it's played by a bunch of brute's with not an ounce of quality anywhere. so in summary the SPL is a joke Big Grin

RE: Football Banter
Plans for a Sainsbury's supermarket at Ashton Gate in Bristol have been approved despite a wealth of opposition from local residents and retailers.

Sainsbury's can now build on Bristol City Football Club's ground, subject to a legal agreement and conditions.

Planners had recommended the scheme be rejected because of the negative impact on traders in nearby Bedminster.

The football club was relying on the £20m income from the sale of Ashton Gate to partially fund a new stadium.

Out of nine councillors on the development control committee, six voted yes, one voted no and two abstained.

Before a final decision can be made, the application has to be sent to central government to consider whether the Secretary of State should become involved.

The new 30,000-seater stadium at nearby Ashton Vale, which has already been granted planning permission by the council, would cost £92m.

Five new councillors helped decide on the plan after some regular members of the committee stood aside because of abuse they suffered at a previous hearing.

In July, the original plans for what would be the South West's biggest supermarket were rejected before revised plans were submitted in November.

Traders are worried the new Sainsbury's could have an impact on their shops Campaign group Stop Sainsbury's had said it was worried by the prospect of extra traffic, including lorries, on roads in the area.

It said the development would also be a threat to jobs in other nearby stores.

Bristol Civic Society also objected saying there was "no material difference between the first and the second applications" for a new store.

A study by property consultancy GVA, which was commissioned by the city council, found the negative retail impact of the store on nearby Bedminster would outweigh any benefits.

However, Sainsbury's said the report did not take into account benefits of the proposal such as investment, job opportunities and regeneration

fergie reckons last nights game needed a good strong referee, instead they got a weak one and his poor decisions changed the game, pity they did,nt have a good strong one at stoke or west brom when neville should have been sent off in both games.

Now those were game changing decisions.annoyedannoyed

SPL is shit. the only good matches are rangers v celtic and vice versa. SPL is a cheap ass version of la liga which is also shit. So the SPL is even crap. the only good matches in la liga are madrid vs barcelona and vice versa. Always rangers or celtic winning the title. and in la liga always barcelona or madrid going for it.

The premier league is the best league by a mile. Arsenal, chelsea, man united, man city and tottenham, Liverpool can all win it at the start. It has been such an exciting title race and now we are down to two. And after man United's loss yesterday and the fact that they have to play liverpool on sunday being only a point in front of arsenal makes it so interesting. You still don't know who is going to win it. So exciting is the premier league.

i think the old firm have improved this year and celtic inparticular have played some great stuff in these games, i think the mccoist/lennon incident will only fuel more great CLASHES next season. and the celts still have to go to ibrox yet! fireworks at the ready!Smile

Rangers didnt have a shot on target until injury time. They had 3 players sent off. They totally lost their discipline and even put their hands on the referee. Neil Lennon (Celtic manager) and Ally McCoist (Rangers manager in-waiting) got involved in a touchline bust-up with one another and had to be separated......really leading by example Rolleyes . All this, together with the blatant lack of quality football, means tonights Old Firm is everything football SHOULD NOT be. Terrible advert for Scottish football by the 2 best teams in the SPL.

Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

RE: Football Banter
i'm sorry to say but the glasgow derbys are unique, unless your scottish or irish or closly related to somebody who is, chances are you just won't get what these matches mean to everybody involved. yes we all probably watch through rose tinted glasses but it is what it is. english fans will call a piece of shit 0-0 game for what it is, no matter who it's between. celtic/ rangers fans will call a piece of shit match between the clubs a classic because of the added element, religion. it's not just hate for a day and go back to work with each other, it is literally war. now scousers can say the hate each other red or blue, same for manchester, but celtic and rangers is a different kind of hatred. it shouldn't be (it's getting slowly better) but it is.
this isn't a rant, just trying to explain the inexplicable in my honest opinion.!! job done! next the financial crises and peace in the middle east!Rolleyes

I'm Irish but i just dont feel that way about it. I like Celtic and would like to see them win the SPL each year but that's mainly because my father is a Celtic supporter. I have even visited Celtic Park twice with himself. I cant justify calling tonights game a classic. What i said about the game in my previous post is exactly how i feel about it. It was a poor advert for the SPL. The players behaviour was an absolute disgrace as was the behaviour of both benches. The quality of football which isnt great at the best of times went out the window. However i will concede that would happen in most derbys in world football anyway.
