RE: Football Banter
Is it just me or has anybody else noticed the presenters booth no more on ESPN at live games but instead they have to suffer in the cold with a makeshift set outside on the edge of the pitch. What's happened has there been some kind of fall out or something because Arsenal have more than enough room inside the stadium to accommodate for a warm studio as opposed to making the presenters freeze their tit's off outside. Anyway flicking back over to Sky Sports 1 to see the Old Firm match where the presenters do get the luxury of being allowed inside the ground. Should be a good game but couldn't really give a fuck who win's it so long as Dundee United go all the way and win the Scottish Cup again.

How about Didier Drogba, Dean Saunders, Thierry Henry, Rivaldo, and all the other divers, face-clutchers, deliberate hand-ballers, etc, etc, etc, none of whom played for United?

You say you are big on fair play, and yet there is no sign of it when you single out one club - a club who just happen to be more in the media spotlight than any other because everything they do, good or bad, is newsworthy and helps sell newspapers! Show a bit of consistency by praising United when praise is warranted, and by criticising clubs other than United for foul play etc and, mark my words, your comments will be more demanding of respect as they will then be seen as more balanced.

It pains me to say it sometimes, but when Liverpool or Arsenal or Chelsea or whoever are deserving of praise then I'm sure that other posters on this thread would admit that my rose-tinted glasses are kept firmly in their pocket! Equally, when United are crap, or transgress, you won't find me bullshitting to their defence.

the first paragraph: you mentioned man utd so i stuck with man utd, the rivaldo dive in the world cup 2002 was a disgrace to the game. campare the prem league to the brazilian championship, the brazilian championship has more diving and play acting then the prem league. the players you mentioned do all dive and play act, some due to playing in leagues where is common place and acceptable, players like gerrard have learned the "dark arts" of football from their foreign counter parts, pre 1996 there werent many foreign players, after euro 96 foreign players increased across the divisions. they brought many benefits but also the diving, play acting, showing imaginary cards to refs etc.

second paragraph: i know refs interpret the laws of the game differently but they apply them inconsistently from one game to the next. i did praise man utd for the rooney goal, that scholes is a good player with passing and shooting skills second to none in my previous posts.

3rd paragraph: there have been times where chelsea, liverpool, arsenal and man utd have been impressive with how they play. arsenal need to sort out their defence and have a strong leader in the midfield, chelsea just did some pace on the flanks and some younger players coming through, same with man utd with the younger players especially home grown not youngsters that have been brought in from overseas, liverpool need a xavi alonso type player, a decent centre half to replace carragher (when he retires, along with the greek), a couple of wide players with pace and crossing abilities.

in 1999 when man utd played juventus, roy keane, got a yellow card in the 2nd leg and therefore missed the final due to the ban, he played abosultly briliant in getting man utd to the final, he could have selfdestructed like gattuso, flamini and the rest of the milan team, the way they game back in the final against bayern munich at the nou camp from conceding the early goal. this and against chelsea in the champions league final were the only times i backed man utd, fergie getting a knighthood for the treable and man utd for ditching the fa cup for some overseas holiday to football in brazil, where they lost are the reasons why i sometimes dont like man utd, i dont like chelsea because of the owner. houllier, hodgson, benetiz for the style of football played under them, the fans are great on a european night but when it comes to the prem league saying this year is our year every season is abit tiresome. arsenal do play good football but it arsene wenger with his "i didnot see it" is getting tiresome plus nicolas bendnter is not a good striker and he should be sold.

im off to watch man city v villa, 1-0 to man city yaya toure. it still arsenal 0 orient 0.

RE: Football Banter
Can't argue with any of that really!

Ferguson got his knighthood not only because of the treble in 1998/99, but because he is a strong supporter of the Labour Party, and as one of the most famous and outspoked Socialists in the country, the opportunistic then Prime Minister Tony Blair cottoned onto the fact that Ferguson would be a useful tool in his armoury.

Ferguson is a money-obsessed champagne socialist in my opinion; his mind-bogglingly greedy pursuit of horse semen that was the Rock Of Gibraltar episode was the main reason why the Glazers are presently in charge at Old Trafford. He was fortunate to achieve his successes at a time when football is in vogue and seen by politicians as a mechanism for positive point-scoring, as opposed to the 1970s and 1980s when it was seen as a paryah by politicians due to its association with hooliganism. These are almost certainly the reasons why equally deserving managers such as Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Brian Clough were not knighted, as they all should have been.

The only decision i'd say Atkinson got blatanly wrong last night was not sending off David Luiz. Being honest i think there wasnt much else he got wrongWink

Judge me by my size do you? Hmmm? Hmmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the force. And a powerful ally it is.

RE: Football Banter
thank you lindor, i forgot about the tony blair and fergie from being from the same cloth in politics no wonder this is fucked. tony blair got caught accepting £1m from little man bernie, to try to stop the ban on cigrette ads. i hate it when politians jump on sporting success, however it was great seeing freddie flintoff walking down downing street pissed.

stat you for lindor, wolves (i think) were the only prem league team, until recently, did not receive a penalty in any game.

one team i would like to fail is man city, to prove does not give you success. i know man utd, arsenal, chelsea, liverpool have spent big money in the past but they had foundations laid down over the years but man city have no foundations (i mean a core of players that have been with club since their teens, le tisser at southampron, giggs, scholes, g neville at man utd, carragher, gerarrd at liverpool) but these clubs now have no "home grown players" (players from their area). man city before the new owners had a good youth setup and some promising youngsters but they now cast aside because the owners are buying silva, toures, balotti etc all because they want to win trophies now instead of building a side from the bottom to win trophies over a sustain period. arsenal should have started that with the carling cup but they lack a fighting spirit which comes from the players and more importantly the manager. thats why birmingham won on sunday the mcgelish (sorry about the spelling if its wrong) instilled into his players and you can see that in the players he brings to the club, espcially in the midfield, bowyer (thug), ferguson are both combative midfielders with gardner breaking from midfield into the box.

some clubs are closing their core supporters because the club, in terms of players, are losing their local indentity, if you have noticed mjority of fan favourites are those from the same area as them (i know some are foreign). also ticket prices and how the season tickets are managed with terms and conditions eg man utd charge you for cup games even if you dont go, not sure if this is case now but certainly the 1st full season after the glazer take over, and how the club is managed at boardroom level, at arsenal there is a possible take over by one of two people, Ivan Gazidis and stanley kronke both near the 30% share which would trigger a clause for them to place a bid to buy the other shares.

blame fifa becuase they dont want national fa's to correct the mistakes of refs unless the refs admit, either publicly or in their match reports, their mistakes.
