Something has landed on cam at xxXpanded! Amanda's doing it from home, it looks like - just popped into spy mode for a minute to see if it was from the studios. She's not on the schedule yet, but I've given up trying to predict what all these changes are adding up to. Never give up on the A-bomb though!

There is a message on the xpanded forum saying that they have changed the satellite they use for their channels, and that Freesat users need to retune their sets.

Here's the details :

Downlink Freq: 11.68550 GHz
Symbol Rate: 22.0 Msym/s
FEC: 5/6
Polarisation: Vertical

Just arrived in a Freesat household, so gave manual retuning a go. I usually find my way around a remote - I was in the middle of posting about my failure when I found where the 28 new channels had appeared. It's coincided with a software update when I turned the TV on, so I can use that as an excuse in the unlikely event that the owners notice!

In other xxXpanded forum news, there was the first reference I've seen to the imminent changes to how premium rate numbers will have their costs explained.

I've now found it being mentioned in the Ofcom discussion thread, but this is something from one of the horses' mouths in a discussion about rewards points numbers being a bit higgledy-piggledy at the moment. They reckon that the mobile operators are using the whole traumatic experience to ramp up their access charges in some cases, when the legislation is more about explaining the service charges to the likes of Xpanded TV (odds on the connection charge appearing again after July the first, anyone?).

I'll be interested to see what differences are made manifest. The reason I was driven to use their credits system for my favourite phone girls was when my mobile company raised their access charges for (as far as I was able to judge) every premium rate number so whether the stated BT landline rate was £1.53 or 25p a minute, I ended up with the to the full £2.50 a minute. I've notice the odd exception since, but I've never battered their door down trying to find out why ; their customer service operators tend to just read out the bit about how it costs so much to vote for Strictly and X Factor!

No plans just yet then, to ring anyone via the numbers on the two FlirtXchange channels before me now. I'm more disappointed that Freesat isn't giving me any Hannah Claydon this morning. I'll have to connect the laptop to this TV and use the broadband to choose between her and Fernanda - life's answers are never easy...
