They are OK. Allowing for the fact that they are almost never completely see-through, I don't know why they aren't used more often.
Personally I prefer skimpy panties with plenty of hand action rather than completely nude with clamped-on hand panty. It is the tease that does it for me; the chance of the odd little flash rather than blatant open leg flashing.
