Monumental shock .
The calendar slam dream is over for Serena.
One of the most enormous shocks in tennis history for me.
Absolutely unbelievable.
But Serena has blown up at the US Open before notably against Stosur and Clijsters.

2 Italians in the final. Never had Italy down as a hotbed of tennis talent

The head to head record between Pennetta and Vinci is close at 5-4. Could be interesting.

Could end up being the who cares final unless you are from the players respective home towns. Great for Italy but none event from a neutrals perspective. Might put money on it to generate an interest.

Two veteran Italian women in the final who saw that coming

Roberta Vinci has won 5 women's doubles titles from 8 finals with Sara Errani in last 3 years, but she decided to play a lot more singles this year and it seems to have paid off. She or Pennetta will join Francesca Schiavone as an Italian female Grand Slam Champion( Roland Garros/French Open 2010)

Djokovic is doing a demolition job on Cilic. He's currently 2 sets up 6-0, 6-1. Ouch

Djokovic crushed Cilic 6-0 6-1 6-2.
In the all Swiss semi final Roger Federer was imperious form to trounce Stan Wawrinka 6-4 6-3 6-1.

That's the thing . At least with Serena you had an interest. You would root for who ever was up against Serena. Being Italians do you think they got up at 5 am and left their towels on their preferred seat for the match?
