A Midsummer Night's Dream(1935)

A lavish Warner Brothers production of Shakespeare's play from Max Reinhardt and William Dieterie.Anita Louise is spellbinding as Titania,Queen of the Faries alongside an equally brilliant James Cagney,as Bottom the Weaver. Also featuring a good turn from Mickey Rooney as Puck.

Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth.

A good idea, just not as well-executed as it could have been. The very idea of Pinhead unbound and on earth sounds awesome, and Doug Bradley is great, especially the church scene. The new Cenobites are a bit shit, which is even acknowledged by Pinhead, so I can let that go. Church scene is the best bit:

Reykjavik: Whale Watching Massacre

Absolutely bobbins film but this tidy little American piece gets her tits out so happy enough with that.

SSSSSSS(1973)

A ophiologist goes mad whilst experimenting with snakes and injects venom into his daughter's boyfriend, which transforms him into a malformed, half man, half snake creature.A bit of a silly film with terrible dialogue that would be much worse without Strother Martin in good form as Dr.Stoner and some pretty decent makeup effects from John Chambers.

I've still gotta read the book on this. Glad to hear the film's really good too.

The Last Starfighter(1984) Lance Guest stars as a young video game expert who after a record score on a game called The Last Starfighter, is transported into space by a friendly alien (Robert Preston) and recruited to fight against real alien enemies! Guest makes a likeable hero, versatile too, as he plays his alien doppelganger left on Earth, although Preston tends to steal scenes. The alien makeup and special effects are pretty good for 1984, and Norman Snow makes a good alien villian. A fun movie. Also starring Dan O'Herlighy, Catherine Mary Stewart, Barbara Bosson, Vernon Washington & Chris Hebert. 7/10

Written In Blood(1998)

A successful horror novelist realises that the events in his books are happening in reality.Simon Cox's film has some good, old school jumps but this has all been done before and better.Gary Beadle,Doug Bradley and Paul Copley are all fine in their respective roles but the less than stellar script doesn't give them much to do.

Sunset Song (2015) Life in a Scottish village pre World War One focusing on a farmer (Peter Mullan) and his family, including his daughter (Agyness Deyn) and her coming of age. A slow film, sometimes a bit of a grind, but fairly rewarding due to the acting and cinematography, Mullan as a tyrannical father, is good as usual, and Deyn convinces in the lead role, pretty much in every scene, she grabs your sympathy. The film also touches on the lot of women at the time, and the war. Also starring Mark Bonnar, Kevin Guthrie( a fine performance), Daniela Nardini, Jack Greenless, Ian Pirie & Douglas Rankine. 6/10
