2 Labour voted "no" with the government, 21 conservatives voted "yes"

Boris is fucked. He's going to have to kick out about 20 Tory MPs, or back down.
And he's not going to be allowed to call an election (somebody seems to have talked some sense into Corbyn).

If this pans out the right way, his only option will be to go to the EU and actually negotiate. Instead of just pretending to.

I will probably eat these words in due course, but at least for tonight I am warmed by the fact that Boris Johnson's relentless Trumpian lying may ultimately be his downfall.

With such a slim majority (now a minority) his success as Prime Minister and as conservative party leader rests on his ability to get MPs and his own party to trust him. And the fact is that nobody trusts him. Because he's not trustworthy. Because he has lied so often and with such breathtaking arrogance and impunity.

I'm sure that, in short order, all conservative MPs will rediscover their cynical sense of self-preservation and will summon some unconscionable rationale for supporting him again -- thus returning us all to the shambles.

But at least I go to bed tonight feeling like the insufferable twat is fucked for now.
