As Evelyn hinted during her show yesterday, she has cancelled next Friday's show, and there is a slight question mark against next Tuesday. Put it down to family visits. So next Tuesday is only a possibility, but the following Friday should be 100% back to normal service resuming.

Does anyone else think Evelyn has become really unreliable in recent months?

Firstly, she rarely seems to start on time for any show (at least not according to the schedule), and normally seems to be at least 15-30 minutes late. And this is when she is doing a "full" shift - there have been plenty of times where she has also cut the shift short (e.g. not doing the evening/early part, or starting a couple of hours or so late etc.).

But worst of all, there have been so many missed shifts. A quick look at nottooold's posts seems to suggest that since the end of June, she's cancelled something like 7 shifts, and had at least 5 more off due to holidays. Considering she only does two shifts a week, that means there were 39 possible shifts in that time. Which means, almost 18% of shifts were cancelled in that time, and she was one holiday for 13% more. So was only for only around 69% of shifts - of which many were cut short or started late.

And this doesn't include any of the missed shows early in the year, due to "flat renovations", or whatever it was.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always remember her being quite reliable in the past (probably when she still worked in the studio). Whereas these days, she seems very hit-and-miss, unfortunately.

The Shift Attrition Rate would appear to have accelerated in 2021. It is an interesting subject for speculation.

The reasons given for shifts not happening are ostensibly valid, but there's a nagging sense that she just doesn't fancy it anymore in the way she used to. Maybe she either doesn't need or want to do 2x10+ hours shifts every week? Boredom setting in, or the financial imperative has declined. The reasons for cancelling are rarely incapacitating or totally insurmountable if she really wanted or needed to perform. A cold? insert an extra shift in the following week. Renovations? Awkward family visits? Return to the Studio for a couple of weeks.

Being self-employed means she is her own boss and can do exactly as she pleases and could just cancel and not give any reason - so you wonder why would she even need to concoct sickies and domestic crises? I guess that just plain cancelling would be bad public relations, bad for business, and bad for her relationship with S66.

Ultimately, it is her life and her choice when and where she works.

When I wrote my original comment, I was thinking much the same as you've detailed here.

And, to be fair, a few of the missed shows seem to be because she's "too busy" - as opposed to any "concocted excuse". Be it makes me wonder, what is she too busy with? I'm guessing she makes very good money on these shows - presumably more than she's likely to make in any other line of work. So, it seems she's unlikely doing a "second job" - unless she's got some business interests on the side (maybe she's setting something up for if/when she leaves the shows).

Unless she has some other kind of line of work, it makes me think can she really be too busy to organise her life that she handles two days work a week?

In the past, I don't remember her ever missing many shows and/or being too late. In fact, she always struck me as one of the more reliable girls. But not these days - I do wonder whether it's connected, in part at least, with working from home.

Perhaps she's more financially secure. Perhaps she lacks the motivation (I'm guessing she has some pretty boring callers, by the sounds of it!). Perhaps being away from the studio (and the structure it provides) makes it easier to cancel.

Like you say, it's her life (and career) - and I'm sure she's been around long enough to know what's good for her. It's just a shame she's become so unreliable - still, it's better than her leaving the shows completely!

I stongly suspect that long-term home working, imperceptibly at first, but inexorably, erodes discipline, routine and motivation, and in turn reduces productivity, and lowers internal thresholds for a worker taking time off. I reckon a lot of big private sector firms think this too, hence the push to get people back in the offices. I suspect that they have noticed productivity decline late last year and into this year after the initial novelty of home-working following Lockdown1 wore off.

...the blessing of living in a free society. Everyone has a right to say what they think. The above responses imply that Evelyn is dishonest. That's way wrong, but we all the the right to be wrong.

Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world she has to walk into mine!

Nobody seems to know what she does on the other 5 days when she’s not due on her home cam, that’s assuming she turns up when she’s due to. I know it’s her business what she does but I can’t help but be curious
