Flying Through Time - Mustang and Spitfire
Forces TV - 2004

Another misleading title as the spitfire is hardly mentioned.

The Mustang has an interesting history. The North American Corporation had impressed the British procument people with their Harvard trainer and so in 1940 they were asked to modify the Curtis P-40 for use as a fighter bomber for the RAF. North American instead said they could knock up a new plane of their own in four months, and so 109 days after the contract was signed, the first Mustang took to the air. It had a new design of low-drag wing, a lightweight aluminium skin and a large fuel capacity giving it a much greater range than any other single engine fighter. The Allison engine, however, gave poor performance at high altitude and so the British decided fit a Merlin engine which turned it into an outstanding aircraft. It was the only fighter with the range to be able to escort the American bombers on their daylight raids into the heart of the Reich and supposedly Goering said that when he saw Mustangs over Berlin he knew the war was lost.

The Mustang was still in service with several air forces in the Korean War and was last used in action by the Dominican Republic in its civil war in 1965.

Global Public Square
Fareed Zakaria berates Trump for monstering China. Then he berates the Democrats for trying to outdo Trump at monstering China. Then he plugs his new special... in which he monsters China.

I know people see the 88 one as more giant-killing, but I'll prefer the 87 anytime.
ITV Football Classics: The 89 Title decider
Think I watched this one live too. Comical to listen to commentary geared to one result, when the incredibly late goal proves them wrong.

Star Trek Voyager Ep 3 “Projection” Season 2

A Ep focused around the Doctor who throughout the run of show always got the best stories. Also cameo featuring a cameo from the next gen shoe Lt Barclay.

Dennis Miller Plus One - Tom Papa
Some stand up comic apparently. He's got a book out, about lowering your ambitions to be happier.

Lusitania - 18 Minutes that Changed the World
PBS America - 2015

"On 7th May 1915 the passenger liner Lusitania was just off the coast of Ireland, nearing the end of its journey from New York to Liverpool, when it was torpedoed by a U-boat. The sinking was more dramatic than the Titanic - in just 18 minutes, the ship was gone. The 1,198 victims came from all over the world. Most of their bodies - men, women and children - washed up on the Irish coast. The political repercussions were massive. U-boat captain Walter Schwieger went from national hero to the most hated man in the world. France and Britain used the sinking, and the fact that 128 Americans died, to pull the US into the war. As a result, the Lusitania has always been told as a 'big American history story', and both the human detail and the international importance have been lost. Now, as a result of new research, we can tell the human story of that desperate 18 minutes for the first time. And how the race for survival aboard the Lusitania impacted on the lives of millions world-wide."

It's true that the sinking of the Lusitania turned American opinion against Germany but the US didn't declare war for over two years and the impetus for that was the "Zimmerman telegram". The German foreign minister asked Mexico to join an alliance against America with the Mexicans receiving Texas, New Mexico and Arizona as a reward. The message was intercepted and decoded by British Intelligence and passed to President Wilson who declared war a few weeks later. Today the idea that Germany could have defeated America then, or the Japanese 25 years later just seems mad.
