Robot Chicken
Generally amusing; crazy to see it was from 2014.

The art of World War II - A Culture Show special
Alistair Sooke manages to fit in "Jane of the Daily Mirror", David Low's cartoons and the "Keep Calm and Carry on" propaganda posters in one show.

Romancing the Stone: The Golden Age of British Sculpture
Episode one - Masons of God

BBC 2011

Alastair Sooke looking at the period from about 1100 to 1500 when "sculpture" was not an art form in itself but another way of expressing religious devotion.

As someone almost completely ignorant about the subject matter I found it really interesting. I'd only heard of two of the objects examined - the Lewis chessmen which are probably Norwegian and the "Arundel Tomb" in Chichester Cathedral made famous by the Philip Larkin poem.

Two of the items were pretty amazing. The west front of Wells Cathedral is described as a cliff face of sculpture illustrating the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It's very impressive as it is but then they show a picture of how it would have looked when new and painted.

Another new concept for me was the Cadaver monument which is a statue of a dead person after they have started to decompose. The only example in Britain is of Alice de la Pole at the church in Ewelme where her cadaver sculpture lies underneath the "fresher" one.

Emergence S1 Ep3.

The local police chief takes in a girl she finds at a crash site, the girl has no memory of who she is or what happened, but is unhurt.
It kinda reminds me of Kyle XY and the 80's film D.A.R.Y.L. worth a look if you like that kind of thing, decent cast too.

Air Warriors - Spitfire
Smithsonian Channel - 2019

A superficial but pleasant look at the most iconic British aircraft of them all.

There's not much about the aircraft itself, its design and continuous development throughout the Second World War. The focus is more on some of the aces who flew it and the battles in which it fought so we learn a bit about Dunkirk, The Battle of Britain and the defence of Malta.

One snippet that was new to me was that the only time spitfires fought against one another was in the first Arab-Israeli war in the late 1940s with not only Egypt and Israel flying the Spitfire but also the British who were in charge of Palestine. Not surprisingly there was a fair amount of confusion with regard to friend or foe identification.

This is MH434, a Mark IX that flew over 80 operational sorties in WWII before seeing action with the Dutch Air Force in Indonesia. It became a film star in retirement pitching up in "The Longest Day" and "The Battle of Britain" amongst many other screen appearences.
