Bercow had to back one side or the other. If he'd backed the government you could still claim he was wasn't being impartial.

You're not really getting how the whole Brexit debate works, are you Wink

Any judgement in favour of your side is impartial, and any judgement against your side is biased

This is great from Bercow after the goverment tried to undermine him.

So if she loses the vote (which would be inevitable but if by some small chance a miracle occurred and won), could we then now say her Government is paralyzed and powerless to get it's business through Parliament regardless?

RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit (formerly Europe..IN or OUT??)
Not wishing to go over old ground or state the obvious as defeat on the Deal is inevitable but it'll be the size of the defeat that'll shape the next step as a defeat of less than 110 maybe overturned on a second vote with meaningful/legal concessions towards the backstop. The lack of any legal declaration of a means of unilaterally leaving the backstop or a fixed date seems to be the major stumbling block among MP's who respect the Brexit vote (& whom don't want to overturn the 2016 vote) but can't vote for TM's hotch-potch of a deal under it's current guise.Any higher than 110 then I guess we are going to have to see what the Government's 'Plan B' whatever it may be & considering how bad & indecisive the Government has been on the negotiations I can only envisage the 'Plan B' will be the same Withdrawal Deal with a few meaningless concessions as I do not believe the EU negotiators will offer anything with any clarity or legality that will change MP's minds. That being said minds may change on the future vote should the default position of 'No Deal Brexit' kick in.In reality neither the UK nor the EU really want a no-deal outcome as it is a failure on both sides of the negotiations but neither should the EU expect that the UK can just forget the vote & remain in the EU as a reluctant partner much like a partner who filed for divorce but couldn't find the right lawyer & because the in-laws thought divorce would cost too much so we'll stay married & continue resenting each other.

The problem with the anti-brexit MP's like the Lib-Dems,SNP,the rump of Labour MP's & a handful of Tories like Anna Soubry,Dominic Grieve etc who are either calling for Article 50 to be revoked (stopped) or a 2nd Referendum (how can it be a People's Vote when only Remainers are calling for it) is that they can only realistically happen if Theresa May changes her mind (which would be politically suicide for her & her party) or Jeremy Corbyn campaigns for a 2nd Ref (which would alienate the Nothern base of his vote).Hearing the desperation of people like Vince Cable & Nicola Sturgeon actively urging Corbyn to back a 'Peoples Vote' is almost cringeworthy as they know Corbyn is a Brexiteer in remainer clothing.

RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit (formerly Europe..IN or OUT??)
On Newsnight last night they were talking about the Tory MP Nick Boles Grantham constituency (which was Margaret Thatcher's old constituency) that voted 60% to Leave on the EU vote in 2016.Apparently 92% of Tory members in the area are furious with their MP Nick Boles positioning regarding Brexit & want him deselected as an MP.
From my understanding Nick Boles is backing TM's Withdrawal Deal but has stated other options like a Canada+ or a Noway+ Deals as an alternative & isn't one of the MP's that is rejecting Brexit.I think how certain MP's vote regarding Brexit ie Remain voting MP's who seek to overturn the Brexit vote in Leave voting areas (& vice versa) will face the same deselection problems Boles has.

Listening to various anti-Brexit MP's being interviewed over the past few days have all expressed the similar theme that when Theresa May's Withdrawal Deal gets voted down in parliament then her rejected deal should be put to the country in 'The Peoples Vote' against remaining in the EU which sounds like a lop-sided vote & a load of bollocks. And so in their eyes with a vote that gets flatly rejected by MP's is expected to get voted by the public sounds like a great choice not!.And how would Brexit supporting people like me be expected to vote who hate TM's deal.
