Better to play safe on someone they already feel is a star, which somewhat defeats the object.

That's absolutely spot on and its also why WWE is loosing so many viewers. Its all been done before, same faces and nothing new or interesting.

i'll be interested to see Lesnar V Orton, im not obsessed with all these NXT and small Indy guys like other people are, Orton is a pretty good heel but he will probably return as a face, WWE just need to do a heel v heel match for once

It doesn't really benefit the company though, both guys are veterans and they need more main events involving new blood.Lesnar is a part timer and Orton,as good a worker as he is,was a rejected babyface that didn't draw money in his prime ten to twelve years ago.As the decline in TV ratings, ppv buy rates and harsh live crowds reactions continue,it shows that most fans aren't obsessed with huge, muscle freaks like Vince is.However,I'd rather watch Lesnar and Orton in any circumstances than watch Roman Reigns.

Yeah i know they are veterans but they haven't had a match against each other at a PPV before, People wanted to see Sting v Undertaker and they are in their 50s.
Im not obsessed with muscle freaks but it doesn't mean i want to see guys like Zayn or Owens as World Champion

Fair points, I personally think Taker and Sting should have retired long ago. You're right about Lesnar and Orton not going at it on ppv before but they've both had their time.To me its just another opportunity wasted by not letting two more exciting younger talents headline it.

The problem with WWE at the moment(and for years now really)is that they have no vision. As Doddle said earlier,a younger guy(insert name here)could benefit from rubbing shoulders or dare I say, even beating Lesnar to gain momentum and potentially become the next big draw in wrestling but that's long-term thinking and WWE only think short-term.

The likes of AJ styles and Cesaro are a similar age to Orton and Lesnar

Tbh no new talent will ever replace the guys i grew up watching in the AA era and the early 2000s anyway, i know Lesnar and Orton have had their time but its probably the only big match that hasn't been done yet, there's plenty of time to see Sami Zayn v Enso Amore for the WWE title if that's what people want

Yeah they are of similar age but as something new for WWE viewers,it would be nice to see Styles and the likes get a chance.

I know what you mean about the attitude era,I'm a huge Steve Austin mark so I get that totally. An interesting note about that is,due to some self serving antics from certain main event stars, including Stone Cold, they never actually created many new stars for the future during that period.

John Cena is in the same age bracket too, I think.

As am I shocked OK, never mind that now...

RE: The Official WWE Discussion Thread
More bad news on the ratings front, last Monday's RAW which coincided with the 4th July celebrations(it was never going to be a big number)was the lowest since march 1997 and the third lowest in the history of RAW.It only drew a 1.9 average. The last time RAW fell on the 4th of July in 2011 it drew a 2.4 average. The USA network is again voicing concern.Live attendance revenue and merchandise sales are holding steady but money from TV revenue and deals makes up 35% of their business. The 5.5 averages of the attitude era seems like a distant memory now, they need to create and push new stars fast and realise Lesnar,Reigns and Cena are not what the majority want.
