Ding Junhui lost a decider. As did Ronnie O'Sullivan, though he went on to give another of his series of downcast interviews, amusingly telling the BBC that if he wasn't working for Eurosport as well, he wouldn't bother turning up.

Milkins whitewashed by Zhou Yuelong next. Maguire lost a decider to fellow young scamp Mark Williams.

Mark Allen, Mark Selby and Neil Robertson all through to the quarter-finals also.

In the first semi final Zhou Yuelong saw off Anthony McGill 6-4.

In the second semi final home favourite Mark Allen produced a fine performance to see off Neil Robertson 6-2.

The Northern Irishman therefore has the opportunity to successfully defend his title and claim a spot in the Champion of Champions event.

Mark Allen has retained his Northern Ireland Open title after winning eight frames in a row from 4-1 down to beat Zhou Yuelong 9-4 in Belfast.
