I have a feeling there is no way May will get Article 50 triggered by March after reading that
Not only will she now have to fight those in her own party who could wreck it I think it will be still going backwards and forwards with the Supreme Court in March and not only that it's possible she may end up not getting any White Paper on Brexit through the House and possibly through the Lords too where I think it is very possible they will try and stall the process only further so I think any timetable for triggering Article 50 by March is going to be completely blown out of the water

RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??)
Whilst I voted Leave, what has become crystal clear over time that whilst Cameron always displayed an arrogance in expecting a Remain victory on the 23rd he didn't have the balls to back it up hence why the Eu Referendum was 'Advisory' & not 'legally binding' like the Scottish Independence vote was.The £9 million literature sent to every house-hold by the government did state the result would be respected whatever the outcome was & yet he had no contingency plan & prevented all civil servants from doing so.
And whilst on one hand I do applaud Cameron for holding the vote (that he never wanted but I did) history will show he will be remembered as one of the worst ever Prime Ministers.
On a change of point what does make me laugh about the SNP & Sturgeon though is that whilst they continue to campaign to remain in the EU if Scotland voted for Independence a few years ago they would have had to leave the EU anyway as well as losing the pound/sterling currency.A question was also put to an SNP minister (that they couldn't answer) on the Daily Politics by Andrew O'Neil that Scotland currently exports £50 billion of goods to the rest of England & only exports £10 billion of goods to the rest of the EU.

I think he probably knew he was going to lose his balls anyway but by not making it legally binding I bet he now realises the mess we have now with the vote is entirely his fault

I do believe that Article 50 will be will be triggered in March timetable purely by getting the sufficient number of MP's with the majority of Tory MP's voting for it minus a few rogue ones like Ken Clarke plus 50+ Labour MP's should see it through. As you say Lords could be a stumbling block but with the looming threat of getting their wings clipped & numbers cut it should still pass through despite much grumbling by the old codgers. The main hurdle I believe will be the vote on the final deal at the end of the 2 years.
I was listening to a few Economists on the news earlier today & they both claimed
that the uncertainty around Businesses ie investment, employment etc is coming from the delaying of triggering Article 50 & not the triggering of Article 50 itself.

Trump's idea of how a trade deal works...

Quote:They'll be one-on-one deals. And if that particular country doesn't treat us fairly, we send them a 30-day termination. Notice of termination. And then they'll come and say, "Please don't do that!" And we'll negotiate a better deal during that 30-day period.

Nothing to worry about there, then Rolleyes

Do you not see that this is exactly what many people are looking to do with the referendum vote and Brexit? Something you consistently seek to vilify their motives on, doubt their aims concerning, and term in a pejorative manner. bladewave

I'm not vilifying anything, parliament had already voted to put the decision whether they should leave the EU into the British publics hand. This was done with the full expectation that the UK would vote to stay.

This came has a bit of a shock and wereas MP's would have abibded by the British public votes, it was remainers that then sort to reverse this demographhic decision by looking for all loopholes they could find.

The referendum was not legally binding - this I have accepted.

The supreme court by a majority have ruled against the government - this also I accept.

If the vote went the other way, only the most hard liner Brexiters would be talking about it, there certinaly woulnd't be any legal challanges; the rest of the world would have forgot it long since.

As for the attacks on the Royal perogative not being democratic by an unelected PM, I think this quote sums it up:

Quote:She is just as elected as Cameron was, or Brown, or Blair, or Major or Thatcher or any other PM. she was elected as a constituency MP by her constituents, elected as party leader by her party and then asked to form a government by the queen. She's as legitimate as any other Prime Minister ever has been

The BS quote being here:

Do you see I spoke about soverenity being bullshit and nothing else there, do you, well do you?

I think your confusion came from this post that brummie manipulated into somehitng it wasn't for their own ends, sadly, you fell for it:

Quote:I also read the bullshit the woman was coming out with today when she was moaning about the hate emials etc, that is was absolutely nothing at all to do with Brexit, go tell that to the marines.

That is, when she was maoning about the hate mails (A fact I have not denied or condone), she was coming out with bullshit about her challage not being anything about brexit but merely about law, which to me IS bull shit.

I could of course choose to use a different word than moaning, especially on this place when there's the likes of you and brummie, but the bullshit was absolutely refering to her law claim; you just choose to read it the way you did.

Do try a little bit harder than that you silly little boy.

I have condoned no hate emails or threats and never would; and I most certainly have not denied them any where.

I think he more or less felt that the government he had at the time and the cabinet would come down firmly on the side of staying in the EU, but I think he was pretty much caught by surprise by the depth of the split the vote created in his ranks

But overall I pretty much wonder now how much support May will be able to garner now to get the White Paper on Brexit through the House and if it has to get through the Lords too how much support she can get there
If she lost, would that mean that Brexit would be dead in the water?

I know the papers were saying that we would bot suffer any downturn through Brexit but I think the longer the delay in process goes on I reckon there is more chance the economy will start to suffer
