Wolves are apparently intrested in signing Roger Johnson from Blues. I'll admit it, at times we had the crappiest defence in the league last season. It was like square pegs in round holes with McCarthy just making do and switching it round all the time.

Anyway, good to see the thread busy again. I was beginning to worry - the place had gone a bit quiet.

When there's no football worth mentioning then it's just the usuals.

Yeah we got a tough group. I do reckon we have the best players but the best teams are Spain and Czech Republic - both in our group Sad

The usuals know who they are, if you don't just click back since the last Prem game.
I am special, or at least thats what my uncle Jimmy used to say when he stayed over on a weekend.

Yeah thats right you've taken the place of the ID fraud character.

Both U21 group's are though & quite even but England, Spain & Czech's in the same group is a bit silly especially if we lose our first game to Spain, I can see both openers being a draw just to set things up for the crucial second game, & why Jack Wilshere had to be left out because Wenger thinks he's tired is a fucking joke, Stuart Pearce should have first & last say on all of his players, I'm pretty sure tired little Jack wouldn't be so tired if it was 2012 & not 2011!!! Never mind though at least we've got Jordan HendersonBig Grin

Yeah although I think it's more to do with it being Wenger 1 Pearce 0, it is another example of players not being arsed to play for England at any level.

As for anyone who says he's an England regular now so he shouldn't go back to the youth side have to look at the likes of Shaqiri, Erikson and Kjaer to name a few who are all established internationals yet still want to play for U21s. Wilshere and Carroll play about 5 games between them and now feel they need a rest rather than represent their country Rolleyes

I used to rate Henderson but he's gone down in my estimations recently for some reason

Bolton apparently after Cameron Jerome and Sunderland interested in Craig Gardner.

Would the last one out please turn off the lights!

You'll be OK. At Portsmouth we've had 5 owners in less than 2 years and in some matches last season we didn't have enough players to make up the full number of substitutes, but we're still here and may make a promotion challenge next season. You're just a pessimist!

RE: Football Banter
Hey Mitchell, do you think Jordan Henderson is good value at the reported £20million?

United were widely reputed to be after him since around Christmas time, and the word was that because the lad and his family are United fans that it was a goer that he would end up at Old Trafford.

I've kept an eye on him since then but to be honest I've not seen a potential £20m player whenever I've watched Sunderland, and had hoped that the speculation would die down. When I heard that Liverpool were interested I wasn't all that bothered that you may beat us to his signature. He's reportedly a workhorse and a good young prospect, but for that sort of money I'd want something a bit more concrete in terms of proven ability.

But there again, Sunderland fans would know him better and maybe he'll be worth it; it just seems that the north-east clubs seem to know how to screw the scousers for more millions than players are worth, just like we used to get screwed pretty much the same way (Veron, Ferdinand, Djemba-Djemba and many, many more).

On another note, Henderson'll be probably the first United-supporting Liverpool player since Alan Hansen! We've had more than our fair share of cleansed Dirties (John O'Shit, Rio Ferdinand and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to name but three) so it's about time we sent a secret agent over to UnfilledBig Grin!

Just goes to show that at the end of the day, us fans are the only ones who truly get it and know what support is all about and that the vast majority of players are just mercenaries.

Just goes to show that at the end of the day, us fans are the only ones who truly get it and know what support is all about and that the vast majority of players are just mercenaries.

I don't know how much we payed as the fee has been classed as undisclosed (I hate it when they do this) but if David Ngog goes to Sunderland then the £4m-£5m they pay will just be knocked of the Henderson price, why it wasn't money plus Ngog is a bit silly.

Utd were widely reputed to be after him at Christmas & since then he's not been great when you've watched him, well I think this might have something to do with the fact that Sunderland in general haven't been great since Darren Bent left for Aston Villa in errr January.

As for a reported £20m, Michael Carrick £18m, Anderson £18m, Juan Sebastián Verón £28m, Dimitar Berbatov £30m (No he's not) not to mention all the player that have been at or are still at Chelsea, Man City & Real!!!

Jordan Henderson is a young English player & since Chelsea, Man City & Real Madrid started driving up the price of oxygen then all the rest of us will just have to suffocate in their shitty mess as from now on all English players especially young ones will cost you a packet.
Andy Carroll was different as I've said in the Liverpool thread as we got £50m & spent £35m of it on him so realistically we made a profit (On the transfer anyway) & as far as the story was I think it was us who offered £30m & Newcastle said no thinking the price can then only go higher.
As you say a reported £20m, well the reported fee for Ashley Young is around £15m-£20m this is a bit silly given he's out of contract in 12 months, we sold Michael Owen for £8m with the 1 year left & are reported to be looking at a bid of only £5m for Gael Clichy who is out of contract next year.

As for "mercenaries" if a player is at a team like Sunderland & given their form after seeing their goalscorer leave then a player like Henderson is always gonna leave when offered an opportunity like we've given him, look at Chris Smalling or even possibly Ashley Young most fans just use the money situation against a player as it's the easiest thing to do but a players career only lasts around 15 years & they have a right to make the best of it, unless it's an Ashley Cole situation who was bitching about money then you can use the mercenary tag, I thought Torres was a tw@t when he left but only as I thought he went to try & get instant success & showed a lack of fighting spirit or patience for another 5 months but I never thought he was a mercenary.
