Coronavirus - is enough being done to contain it?

What a change to the world since I was last here!! It is though, to be fair, a situation where those that are in the invidious position of having to steer us through it, are between a rock and a hard place with literally every move they make, and I wouldn't swap with them! I do take issue with certain moves by the govt which flew in the face of the best advice from the expert scientists compiling and analyzing the data, and ultimately advising Bojo et al!

I may be coming at this from a slanted position of being in the vulnerable category, but I do in fact see it as a zero sum game. The virus is dictating and will dictate everytning, up to the point a vaccine at the minimum level - up to an ultimate cure - at the other end, becomes available. One only has to look at the 'damage' done at the point of each lifting of even the smallest of restrictions when the virus 'takes off' again.

People say it isn't feasible to lockdown to the fullest extent that would appear to be necessary, but unless we do, what it amounts to, is an 'acceptable level of loss' in my view. I wish someone was honest enough to own that! The moves made by the govt some weeks ago in the NW of England - which flew in the face of the advice/instruction of SAGE - and lead - K Starmer was right - to increased infection and a number of deaths that wouldn't have been lost had the 'circuit breaker' been used, proves that. I know - as I said - it is easy to be 'outside the fire' pontificating, but I would not want - and would refuse to be - the one who has to knock on the family door or contact them in any way to offer condolences, in circumstances where I had taken action contrary to expert advice, which lead to further loss! I will though say that Johnson has sought to do the best he can in impossible circumstances, unlike other so - called leaders!!

In my experience, people who pretend they know something nobody else does, but refuse to say what it is, generally know fuck all about anything.

I Doubt it!! The authorities seem reluctant/incapable of enforcing the law in this respect|!! In some cases the police have said that the persuasive approach is best but too often that is not working. The fines were initially too small to have any impact. but even with sizeable increases, if the police are not willing to hand them out (too often), then they are pointless. Draconian measures - including court summons/sanctions are necessary! Should the police still be reticent to enforce, they should know that they will be held accountable themselves for the consequences!! Any further infection/death that occurs because they wont enforce the laws is on them!

Rent a Mob are whining about Police brutality on Twitter so Plod must have done something right

Serve them bloody right!! I would have just dropped a huge metal cage around the area and left them there for 24 hours and wonder how many of them will be demanding compo when they got homewhen they knew full well they would have broken restrictions by being there in there first bloody place!!

With the way the Oxford vaccine has proved it's effectiveness by being given in two doses - one half dose and then one full dose several weeks later - and it is undergoing second trial - and should they increase the effectivity during those trials, would that be the way to go when they roll it out for vaccination and would you guys trust the Oxford vaccine more in that circumstance than the others?
