The 667,000 are still here, there was a 330,000 emigration number, but that still leaves a net total of 337,000 people EXTRA that are in the country. So that still 1:98 people all together and 1:192 with just the EXTRA people alone, this is in one year.

What emigration was happening 15 years ago is pretty much irrelavant now, but even if you were to allow all that time, to end up was your figure of 1:4000 as an average imigration must have rocketed sky wards in the last few years considering the net increase was 1:192 last year.

They probbaly know the two don't have to be linked, and you can trade between 2 countries with out it being compulsory that either population has the right to live in one anothers country.

I think what people seem to be loosing sight of, probbaly deliberately, is not moving amoungst member states working, you can do that with work permits, visas and so on, it's having a certain pass port entitles you to live whereever you want in in the EU and just claim the bennefits.

This would never be a problem with the richer countries, your not going to get mass movement between UK, France, Germany, Italy and so on; for these countries the free movement of people is a very good idea, merely simplifying things, the problem comes because this is applied to ALL member states when only 6 or 7 make any contribution, 20 states don't and it's these contries that most of the migration is coming from.

If your a chap in Poland and the net monthly income for a builder is $685 but you could get way more than that for one job in Britian course you are going to go to the UK.

If the contest is between Gove and May, then Britain is out of the EU and probably the single market, because unlike Boris neither will retreat.

It's incredibly ironic, Boris had enough faith in the British electorate to think they wouldn't be stupid enough to believe a word he was saying.

But some of us were stupid enough to actually believe him!!

Wackawoo in the points based system you don't get your work visa unless you pass the points threshold. What Cameron negotiated with the EU was that you had to have a job and could not immediately claim benefits. That looks like a pretty good deal to me now.

So, why didn't he make more of this at the time? to me this is the first time I have heard of this. What a chump he is, I can only assume everybody thought remain would win and it's sent everybody in a spin.

You got to laugh. Big Laugh

Made me laugh when I saw, I think it was the independant that the UK had 'slumped' to only the 6th richest in the world; ye gads how will be cope, only 6th.

No, (under) 4 in 1000 equals (under) 1:250. The last couple of years have presumably been above the average of the 15 years referenced.

More on the Gove-Boris split...

Another email has been leaked and can be read here. This is all the more fascinating because it reveals a politician engaged in the act of politics. Gove's proposals for changes to Boris' Telegraph article shows something of the differences in stance of the two on some of the crucial issues involved in this debate.

As the author of the article states none of Gove's proposed changes have anything to say on Boris' controversial statements on immigration. Gove even states that he doesn't believe that voters for Leave were "mainly driven by anxieties about immigration". Can we take from this that Gove is of the same mind that Boris was on the matter when he wrote this piece? I think we can.

I sense the knives are now out for Gove who as BoJo's assassin will have made many enemies by his actions. Remember he's the guy who every week role played PM questions with Cameron. He was a journalist so he fully understands the impact of his words. Sarah Vain (sorry Vine) his wife seems to be a less than innocent character as well.
