RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil
I was shell shocked by the performance last night!! I agree without Neymar & Silva Brazil looked well ordinary, but I certainly didn't expect the capitulation that happened. I knew that it wouldn't be an easy game for Brazil but Germany went through them like a knife through butter!! I was just stunned & still don't know this morning how who ever wins the second semi final will cope with this German team. Argentina have relied on Messi a lot and I don't think they could cope with this German team as they are.
Same goes for Holland. Either way, whoever gets through, would need to come up with a plan to contain the Germans. But even so that wouldn't probably last very long!! As it looks Germany could become the first European team to win on South American soil.

Brazil got their tactics all wrong before this game even started. The way the whole nation, media and team etc focussed on Neymar was idiotic. They spent more time lamenting about him that actually getting on with preparing for the game. Silva, as as previously been mentioned was the real big loss to Brazil. All that said despite what others seem to think this was a very good team performance from Germany with some simple but great passing and deadly accuracy in front of goal. The most ruthless display this tournament.

I agree the press focused on Neymar a lot. Messi and Neymar are pretty much in the same boat most people supporting Argentina or Brazil expect either to make things happen. But I have to say throwing away a 62 game unbeaten record must be something.

It only dawned on me this morning that Brazil aren't fully out of the competition yet.
They have a chance to try to redeem themselves a bit on Saturday evening for the third place play-off.
Will be interesting to see how they deal with the opportunity.

RE: World Cup 2014 Brasil
The saddest part of last night's game, in my very humble opinion -- and it will be worse if Germany go on to win -- is what it will do to the England set-up.

After 8 years of "how can we be more like Germany", we had 6 years of "how can we be more like Spain". Now it will lurch back to another 8 years of "we should be more like Germany".

Say what you will about countries like Brazil, France, Germany, Italy. They wax and wane; they have good tournaments and bad. But they always seem to have a defined footballing culture and philosophy. And when things don't pan out, they go back to the drawing board and not only reinvent themselves, but -- in doing so -- they invent something wholly new and unique.

I know that I will be accused of being an irredeemable cynic, but it feels to me like England is always behind the curve. Always fighting the last war, which is to say, always gearing up for the next tournament by trying to mimic what worked in the last one.

Even with this abject humiliation and utter spanking, I would still back Brazil to get to a tournament final again before England does. And that makes me sad Sad

funny isn't it germany play a 36 year old striker and they still win 7-1, no one care's how old they are if they play well

and goodfella is spot on, i remember last season when bayern beat barca 7-0 on agg, people were saying germany are the dominant force in club football, then this season madrid hammer munich 4-0, people are too fickle, it was only the other day people were saying germany are ordinary as they only just got past algeria and france, just like when holland beat spain 5-1 then they were lucky to beat austrailia and mexico

What i admired about the Germans was that after going 2-0 up so early 99% of teams would have tried to sit on that lead especially against a team of Brazil's reputation. Nothing but respect for Germany for keeping going for it.

Dreamers try and draw inspiration from history; pragmatists, meanwhile, get busy creating it.
