I think 45,000 is the government figure. The 61,000 (not 69,000) comes from the Office for National Statistics.

For the government figures weren't they using only the deaths in hospitals ? Don't think they included care homes etc.

I think how much longer can Boris hold out from going into a England wide lock down since France has gone back into full lockdown?
And if that happens the Government have to ensure & set out a full & clear exit strategy before he imposes it.

Whether you agree with the Tier system, or the need for a country wide lockdown in some form, it will be next to impossible to give any clarity on exit strategies. The restrictions in place now, are at best slowing the infection rate in some areas. Didn't the CMO say that the Tier 3 measures were a minimum & more would be required to bring the rate down. Any talk of an exit strategy would be offering more false promises, certainly in terms of any time scale, all you can do is review every fortnight or monthly. Relaxing of any restrictions will come only when infection rates fall. It doesn't look likely that an area has to get the infection rate down to a set number in order to be dropped down into a lower Tier because we have areas with higher rates in Tier 1 than some that are in Tier 2 etc. You would assume that this is just one aspect of the local differences & hospital capacity would be another important factor to consider. No doubt that being to slow to react during the first wave cost lives & it looks like the same mistakes are being made again, which shouldn't happen.

My area moves up to tier2 on saturday. I've tried looking to see what practical difference that will make, I'm honestly struggling to see anything significant.
I have a couple appointments next week, I was concerned they might be affected, nope carry on as before.
Apparently the council gets £3 per person to help towards the restrictions, so at least that will help their coffers a little bit, but apart from that I really can't see much difference from what we were doing previously.

It's looking like the vaccine may be available to some before Christmas, but it seems to be unpopular with a portion of the population.

It will be interesting to see how the Government go about getting 70%-80% uptake.
