You are correct that there are checks and balances in place. Taking the US their federal Govt. consists of 3 branches:

Executive - The President & his employees
Legislative - The Senate & House of Representatives
Judicial - The Supreme Court & lower courts

The problem is that the Republicans now control 2 out of 3 and once Trump nominates a Republican Supreme Court judge who the Legislative branch accept then they will have all 3.

The big question therefore is will the Legislative branch act as a check on what Trump wants to do? That remains to be seen.

As horrific a choice as it was, it was always going to be a wait and see what happens next situation with both candidates.
Putting the 3500 lawsuits and 6 bankruptcies aside, things should be fine for America, provided you aren't a woman, Muslim, minority or an enemy of Trump (I imagine a spreadsheet), things will be a-okay

i'm not the biggest fan of the whole american 'U.S.A, U.S.A bullshit so i they really want him that much, let them have him. if by some miracle he does good, then that's fine, but if it goes how i suspect it will, at least they'll be the first cunts to feel the pain.

Hopefully the more sensible people around him will speak up and he'll listen. I think that's the best we can hope for tbh.

Don't worry people, if this is a Brexit style victory, he'll be standing down any time.
