Possibly, but some Brexiteers are so besotted with America that they are probably hoping for the UK to become the 51st state!

there actually was a plan in the 60's apparently for us to join america

Isn't the leave plan fairly obvious? Whoever the next pm is, the have to invoke that article and then the negotiations start.
